Barkley makes fool of himself on cbs

Get him in prison for a while and let him savor the reputed attention that abusers of children receive.

I agree with everything you are saying. However it could be the greatest show in the world and still have a difficult time taking viewers away from Fox.
Because FOX has the bigger markets. The NFC pregame show will always be bigger. You got Chicago, Washington DC, Dallas, SF, the "A" team in NY, Philly...etc. The NFC Package pregame show always will be bigger and that will never change. The AFC side can't come close to comparing. You got Cincy, Buffalo, Jax, Cleveland, Miami, ...aside from Boston and Denver not really much on the AFC side at all in the term of market size.

I think people's opinion on this is going to change pretty severely against Peterson if some of the reports leaking out are true. The one I heard this morning said that the child had switch marks in his groin area and on his testicles. Hard to defend this as a simple spanking if that turns out to be true.

I did but my backside never looked like petersons kids leg wounds

EXACTLY! That kid wasn't spanked; he was flogged. Got the belt on the butt more than a few times as a kid but never, ever was the skin broken. That poor kid was tortured.

I got the wooden spoon. Sometimes the belt. BUT...I spent 3rd grade living in Alabama (moved from North Dakota). Made the mistake of bringing my Yahtzee dice to school one day and my teacher accused me of shooting craps. I was 8 years old and had no idea what shooting craps was. Didn't matter, went to principal's office he told me to pick a paddle. He had a whole closet of them because once you came to see him a second time you had to make your own paddle. Think wooden plank kind of like a narrow cutting board very similar to the fraternity paddles I saw in college. He was a nice enough guy to advise me "I wouldn't pick one with holes if I were you." 5 whacks and I couldn't sit down the rest of the day. My mother went ballistic made several 4 letter threats that fell on deaf ears. Was probably one of the reasons we only lived there one year in addition to the fact that we were told by our minister that we would not be allowed to rent an apartment within the city limits because my mother was unmarried and unmarried women with children would not find anyone to rent them an apartment. Interesting folk live down there. That said, I'll wait until more info is determined.

Barkley and Jim Rome made that pregame show WATCHABLE today. That show is awful. Tony Gonzalez looks like a deer in the headlights on live TV. Bart Scott is a moron. The show puts people to sleep. They reason Barkley was there is not to talk about AP or Rice, this was a tryout. CBS needs a shot of energy on that show and they tried new things today. Rome and Barkley might be weekly fixtures and get full time roles on that show. And that show needs it
Shannon Sharpe made that show. I can't stand the Fox guys either. Guess it's the 4 letter network for me for pre-game.

This is entirely my opinion, but I always associate kids getting whipped with their parents being lazy. I think it takes way more effort for a parent to establish a punishment, and truly enforce it to the end. And a byproduct of that is you are demonstrating to your kids that violence isn't a solution to problems.
I'm of a similar mind, but would word it slightly differently. Not necessarily lazy, but short sighted and acting out of convenience. My wife and I have a role about discipline. Before we discipline we have to think out what the best lesson is that we can teach, and how to teach it. If the biggest upside to how we feel like disciplining in the moment is that it makes us feel better the quickest, we think that probably isn't in the best interests of our kids. Not that either of us have a horrible temper, but it's helped us to keep sane.

If it needs explaining, never mind. Just a Monday morning jab messing around, that's all.
random, personal insults telling a poster you wish he was beat about the scrotum with a stick till it bled, like AP did to a 4 year old..is a little more than 'just a monday morning jab messing around'.

so yes, i needed an explanation.

Well looking back, what I tried to bold and quote didn't come through. I bolded you asking "what's a switch?". Saying you could've used one. Nothing more

And if anyone needs an explanation, saying someone should've gotten a switch is in no way the same thing as saying someone should do what AP is alleged to have done.

The first big word I learned as a toddler was incorrigible. I got punished but never hit.

When I was about 10 or 11 I got in a fight and broke this kid's nose. His mother showed up at our front door with her son in tow. Mr mother said her son couldn't possibly have done that or I was probably defending myself. As she closed the door, I thought to myself that I had dodged that bullet at which point WHAM! She had a rolled up newspaper in her hand and she belted me on the back of my head. She never said a word but I got the message.

Peterson's 4 year old would love a rolled up newspaper for a change.

I got spankings when I was 4 until they did no good when I was 8 or so. Then I got the wooden spoon. If I reacted in pain to that, that was it. If I laughed, as I often did, I got another. My mom once broke every wooden spoon in the house on my behind and I was laughing so hard I couldn't stop.

I agree 4 years old is too young for a switch or a belt or belt buckle. The bigger problem is there were dozens of switchmarks on that kids' legs. You do it once or twice to an older kid, the kid cries, you explain why the kid can't do what the kid was doing and you stop. I think there is a point at which its apparent that a child is struck out of anger instead of discipline to teach a lesson and that point comes well prior to dozens of switchhits. The bigger problem yet, AP admitted to hitting him in the testicles by accident with the switch and bruising the testicles. You stop immediately if something like that happens. This is anger, not discipline. Hope he gets jail time.

Peterson’s arrest on a charge of reckless or negligent injury of a child sparked a debate on the difference between child discipline and child abuse. Peterson is accused of striking his child with a switch (a tree branch stripped of leaves) and leaving him with welts and cuts on his arms, legs and genitals.

The last word....

I used to watch the Francesa pregame show on YES. It really was the best Sunday pregame show. But that isn't on TV anymore anywhere. So I avoid the Sunday pregame shows. The Fantasy Football ESPN show isn't awful. Defacto NFL pregame show really
