BC finishes their indoor practice facility

bc has surpassed us in so many ways, and has the academic standing as well.

Give me a break. We are 3 and 2 against them since joining the ACC. We’ve had an IPF for several years now and they just built a slightly better one this summer with a useless video board. We’re pumping 120 million into the Dome and the still play in that dump Alumni Stadium. Oh by the way Academic means nothing to football recruits as evident by the whole SEC minus the cellar dweller Vandy.

...are those bricks

Yep. I’d take theirs aesthetically over our prefab airplane hangar. Though the video board is useless so there’s that.

I think aesthetics are a personal preference thing. Ours has a more cold contemporary looking exterior and theirs is more traditional college campus. Inside, theirs looked pretty aircraft hangerish too. I am jealous of the windows and the option of having open doors, though.

BC's is on their main campus and had to respect the aesthetics of the campus, ours is removed from the main campus so it looks fine as is, though could use a little orange paint or some murals or something. I'd rather us spend our money elsewhere.

We in the North never had much use for aesthetics. Only a roof and lights for warmth when winter’s coming. Don’t be mistaken, winter is coming

With all due respect, academics may not mean much/as much to SEC level recruits as most of them are relatively top tier with better chances of making it to the NFL, etc. The type of recruits we typically get, of course have aspirations of playing in the NFL, but realistically they aren't going to get there. Obviously, there are exceptions.

Therefore, I think it's why Dino pitches academics when he's out there selling/recruiting for SU, it does matter to many of our recruits, so with BC being ranked considerably higher academically, we don't need to fall behind them from a facilities standpoint. I'm not implying that we have, but if you're comparing apples to apples relative to the football practice facility, it appears, at least from a perception standpoint, certainly more impactful. The difference in the price tag speaks for itself, as it usually does when it comes down to it.

Just curious tipp, if you were recruiting for SU, how would you sell the program? Do you see anything that might be attractive on the athletics or academic side?

Their IPF is sig better. The weight room overlooking the field and the huge glass walls and natural light is great.

Spot on. They actually put some thought and styling. Ours is functional space and thats about it. With all the $$$ put into it, it lacks simple styling. BC's facility looks great with the glass allowimg natural light. The vid screens could be functional to teach and give an immediate replay of a play just run. Lastly , the lack of color and/or murals on our indoor walls is mind boggling. The facility could have been so much more.

The paint and murals could have been included in the pricing, not a hige expense and with ACC money i am no longer gonna buy the "too expensive " argument, especially for paint. You are gonna do it, do it right. It's extremely sterile.

in past years would have sold academics but that shipped is in the process to be righted.
to compete against the grad school side, we have maxwell, newhouse as real front runners, but are way behind in research capabilities, law school status and we do not have a med school.
given our price tag, in relationship to value of academic programs its a hard sell.
we can sell the hoops program to some extent, based on history and success . we can only sell the football program based on promise, as history is not viable at the the present
time.
the real selling has to be to the big money alumni----to invest in the university, to upgrade academic/research facilities and improve the professional schools.
my question to you is the same,do you see anything that can enhance the university that does not depend uniquely on the football/basketball programs.
shaw and cantor set the university back more than robinson, shafer, etc etc etc.

How big is ours?
By floor space, ours is 11000 feet. That includes the second floor. Theirs is all 1 floor (iirc), so the foot print is a bit larger. The 3 glass sides should add to the wide open, expansive feel. Many high schools have nicer weight rooms than their old one.

So “don’t come here”

CLOWN

I think the only team in the ACC without one is U-Miami now. We were smart to get ours done.

Boston College unveils $52.6 million indoor practice facility - The Boston Globe

The comments in the Boston Globe article are hilarious.

Did Syracuse update anything this year? The way things are going nationally now are if you aren’t updating annually you are falling behind. I think they need improvements to the training room/sports medicine facility. I was in there recently for my job and they can definitely improve greatly in this area. I am sure Tim agrees. I also believe the University should pay the bill on this. With the amount of money being brought in there in no excuse not to have top of the line medical facilities. I also think there can be improvements made to the lounge area. You can really spice it up relatively cheap .

Hello all -

Interesting comments here on the video board in BC's new IPF. As the article notes, the facility will have a number of cameras - two in each end zone and one at mid field - that will record every play. The coaches can stop practice at any time and feed the video of a play right onto the video board - including slow motion/stop action. It is intended as a teaching tool. The outdoor fields will have the same camera system that can also feed right to the video board.

Hey, it can also be a nice recruiting tool for a recruit visiting the facility. Seeing their name and picture on the big board!

you could accomplish the same thing for a 1-2k using projection systems too.

It appears like a great addition to BC's facilities...kudos to BC. 'Interesting' is kind of you. Folks whom generally make disparaging comments about others, etc. in times of accomplishments/successes, is a common trait of one's own insecurities.

You are going to lose to UMASS this year. I've seen it in a vision.
