I had the same reaction. It is supposed to be a touchback.

I’m also not clear on that the more I think about it. I don’t understand how it can be a safety if the last person to touch it was the defender kicking it out of the back of the end zone.

definitely a safety. when punters drop it in EZ they kick it out so they don't get a TD
