BC, GT and...

Not for nothing, but the winning streak record means absolutely nothing to me. It’s just another rung down the mediocrity ladder that will be surpassed at some point, if not this year then likely soon.
It’s one of those “participation trophy-like” records that we as fans can point to, but means nothing in the grand scheme of things.
The defining moment in this streak, if it sticks, will be that we limped across the finish line in spite of Jesse getting injured.
The defining excuse will be, that we woulda, coulda, shoulda kept the streak alive...if Jesse hadn’t gotten injured. Mark me down as totally indifferent to either outcome. JMHO.

honestly, I agree. To me, the most telling streak is that since the beginning of the 2014-2015 season we have been nothing more than a bubble team each season. Two nice Sweet 16 runs and the great Final Four run, yes, but we are freaking Syracuse and we should expect those runs AND expect strong regular seasons where making the tourney is never in doubt. We wouldn't have made it in 2015 when we took the self imposed ban, we wouldn't have made it when Covid canceled the postseason, we didn't make it in 2017 and we aren't making it this year. No bueno.

We need 4 to guarantee a winning season.
3-3 gets us to 16-15 and we need to win 1 ACCT so its not 16-16.

4 wins us to 17-14.

Yeah true. Bad math on my part. Tough sledding ahead.

The fact that this is the discussion we are having makes me sick to my stomach.

Agreed. There was a time the streak meant something to me but it just doesn't anymore. I want to win just to win, maybe make the NIT. No one in the country has any idea about the streak or doesnt care.

SWC, as board historian, please make note of this.;)

Notre Dame is the most fraudulent 11-3 team in the history of the ACC. They are worse than VT, who we should have beaten on Saturday, and if we show up we’ll win that game.
Agree. And their efficiency numbers are much lower than VT’s. We have a chance to win that game, though playing 3 games in 5 days is gonna hurt (and no Jesse in the middle). The difference with ND’s mediocre roster from last season to this is that they have a really good freshman in Blake Wesley (and a big man transfer with Atkinson). Sucks that Brey is gonna get another great freshman next season in JJ.

Yup.

Our fanbase as no idea how to grapple with the reality that right now our game results don't matter at all for the tournament.

The ACC tournament is the only thing that matters for the tournament.
...and if we want to be brutally honest...

we really don’t have much of a chance at getting to 7, so we should want to drop to 10. Pitt winning last night made that a possibility

at large is done.
we have to win the ACC tourney
eh obviously get your point but if we were to pull of some highly unlikely combo of wins (say some combo of beating dook, at ND, at unc) plus one or two in the acct we'd be in the picture for at-large (my annual reminder to take a look around at the lay of the at-large land - blech) -
but yeah that unlikeliness couldn't be much higher

(edit - and I do agree w your point about 7th/10th place - but would add there's also a chance that 8th/9th *could* be ok if dook slips from 1st)

Say we go 7-1 including ACCT.

thats 20-13...Q1 would, obviously this is a guess, be like 3-6 or so. 6-5 in Q3.

yeah...maybe...guess its not as impossible due to the “good” opponents upcoming. Still though winning ACCT is a much better possibility percentage wise and thats like 1% vs .01%

Disagree.
Hmm, I disagree. Buddy is way to slow for the NBA and would give up far more points defending than what he could score. I don't think he'll play much zone in the NBA like he does now. And how is defense so far?

That will be the target now. Sweep BC, beat GT at home then find a win somehow in the other 4.

Gets us to 17-15 and ensures the streak.
The problem is North Carolina / Virginia et al are on the bubble too. Unless they slip in a major way. Cuse has to run the table or win the ACCt. If they get on a roll - certainly it is possible. When the ACCt tournament rolls around - they will be rated as a very dangerous opponent.

So FYI I am talking about a winning season not a tourney bid. I was off on math we need 4 wins not 3 to ensure the winning streak is preserved.

I don’t think we can get on a role without Jessie. His loss totally changes the dynamics of this team.
That might be true but the acc is not good this season. even Duke is vulnerable.

I mean, should Syracuse really EXPECT those runs? Teams that have had far more talent than syracuse over the last 10 years have very similar results… final fours specifically syracuse has 2 along with Duke, Michigan State, Kansas, Gonzaga and Kentucky I don’t know if I would say syracuse should expect to have consistent deep runs, that’s asking a lot from any team.
