BC loses to Providence

Can't say its much of a surprise... out of 19 entries in the pick'm contest, only one picked BC... sorry 4evaOrange;).

Check that box score. Prov had 2 guys play 40 mins and 2 more play 38. Talk about thin bench

The Friars have a solid club this year, they're 8-2. They should be in the NIT with a fringe shot at the NCAA tourney. That said, BC is absolutely miserable.
I respectfully disagree with PC being a fringe NCAA team this season. They have a tough schedule ahead, playing SU twice and GTown twice. I hope for their sake they run the rest of their OOC table but even then they'll take a barrage of losses in the BE and might be stuck at 16-17 wins.

Providence will have a very good class coming in next year.

Providence isn't going to sniff the Tourney this year. The fact that PC didn't blow out BC is an indictment on the Friars. BC has been losing home games by 20 to the Holy Crosses of the world. PC will still finish in the bottom quarter of the Big East

BC is awful and losing at Providence is no surprise. Providence is 6-0 at home, beat South Carolina on the road, and was a 13 point fav last night.

They played Fairfield on a neutral court as I recall ... and were the underdog in that game as I also recall. Fairfield (now 5-4) was reportedly a good team and was supposedly favored to finish behind Iona in the MAC ... but it seems that that analysis has gone seriously awry. Don't see Providence making any impact, this year, in the BE and will likely finish with a losing record after the OOC games are done. Might have only 1 more loss possibly (Rhode Island) before the BE starts ... and they play St. John's first. They should be either 10-3 or 11-2 coming into conference play. They are 64th and 90th in r/g and FG%age, respectively ... but that would reflect the level of teams they have been playing OOC up to now.

After BE conference play I doubt that they will be headed for any post-season tourny .. Hey, but who knows!! I know with Cooley they have been doing some serious recruiting for next year.

Not sure, but I think Rhode Island is terrible this year.

even with that game being at RI, PC will probably be favored.

Rhode Island ain't great but they are the only one with any kind of team that might beat Providence ... and its a home game for both ... really. As I said tho Providence could go into BE play with an 11-2 record ... but a really crappy OOC schedule ... and they start their BE schedule with St. Johns ... a team with very serious issues themselve.

I don't know who their Head Coach is and what happened to the old one.:noidea:

I was going to post this jokingly but it might actually be true...BC might not make a top 20 list of teams in New England. Don't have it in me to figure out the hierarchy, but here's a stab at 20 in no particular order

UCon
PC
BU
Fairfield
URI
Vermont
Northeastern
Harvard
Yale
UMass
New Hampshire
Maine
Central Conn
Brown
Dartmouth
Holy Cross
Sacred Heart
Hartford
Quinnipiac

Alright I ran out at 19.

They may be better than URI.

URI is 1-8 with losses to Hofstra, Brown, and Maine.

No need to argue about it though, they will have a pillow fight on Jan. 2nd.

It's at BC, as if that matters.

As I said ... 11-2 going into the BE conference. Didn't take a close look at RI

I'm going to go out on a limb and say BC would be a double-digit favorite over Hartford who is currently 0-9 against the 280th toughest schedule. ;)

Here are 20 NE teams according to their current Pomeroy ratings. . . BC is 17th

19 Uconn
43 Harvard
103 Fairfield
121 Umass
123 Providence
147 Yale
151 BU
154 Central Connecticut
164 Northeastern
170 Vermont
182 Sacred Heart
197 Quinnipiac
200 Maine
210 Holy Cross
221 Rhode Island
255 New Hampshire
266 Boston College
296 Brown
297 Dartmouth
338 Hartford

at 266, BC is ranked over 100 spots lower than the second worst ACC team, Wake Forest. They are nearly 125 spots lower than the worst BE team (DePaul). Their Pomeroy value of.2617 is nearly half that of Wake (.5187), and over 3000 points lower than DePaul (.5649).

That's amazing.

What the heck happened?

I was at this game, and both teams sucked, pretty awful game, glorified AAU game. Which isn't far off because both teams are pretty young.

And yes PC has a very short bench, I was confused at first because they only had 4-5 players total on the bench in warm ups

The bigger question is how did BC get so bad?
all the MA and RI top recruits go to Syracuse and UConn, and apparently Providence now

BC had a decent run for about 6-7 years during the last decade, but I think people have forgotten how bad they were on even more occasions during their Big East tenure. I'm not that surprised that they've become a program again.

My friend is a walk on at PC. He held the "walk-on" role in high school. Everyone cheered when we were up with 2 minutes left to put in Cah-Tah (Carter) and when he scored we went crazy. He sucked. Somehow walked on at PC, and the other day he was getting PT at the end of the first half. Good for him, but that shows how little depth they have.

He's at the end of that video hitting a 3.
