BC postgame thoughts

People need to realize part of Nait George's problem is lack of an offensive system or movement.

Red's "system" is better for PGs like Judah who just want to play iso ball. Not pgs like NG who excel at ball movement. Unfortunately, that's not a winning formula for the program.
ehh, Nait is not very good. Bad decision -maker. Hes lost us two games.

It took way longer than expected, but I am done regurgitating, so I will make a few post-game comments.

This game may mark the line in the sand in terms of us not being able to afford to lose another game that we are expected to win and still go dancing. In fact, we may need at least one big upset win to offset this loss.

Despite our previous good play the several previous games, I posted after every one that I saw the number of George TOs as ominous. Yesterday the premonition was fulfilled. How does a player who is supposed to be a plus PG get SEVEN TOs !!! To make matters worse, our best player decided to match that number. Freeman had the game in his hands to win and then missed that critical FT. Overall between those two I never saw so many lame passes.

The FT shooting was also only 64%, though many of those misses came from Starling and Kyle, both of whom have weird FT shooting techniques.

Only two bench points. Betsy reverted to the mean after his spectacular game and White and Anthony are basically works in progress.

The only bright spot was Kingz who really had a fantastic game. I wish i could say this was a break out moment for him, but like many of our adequate average to good, but not great players, I suspect he will have his ups and downs moving forward.

Donnie can be counted on for his 20 and 10 efforts, though yesterday his negatives as discussed above were costly. JJ appears to be improving his consistency, and he had a solid 12 points, 5 boards, and 3 steals.

Dont know why we could only find Kyle for 5 shots, two of which came early, so really only 3 more shots over the last 30 something minutes. BC had nobody to match his athleticism and we couldnt take advantage.

This was a game we lead almost all the way, we had opportunities but could never quite break it open. It was a no excuse loss. When we went to OT I had a bad feeling our goose was cooked, and so it was.

As for Red, I dont know what to say. The team play like they were over-confident and didnt take BC seriously enough. Maybe that is on him. I didnt think Kiyan deserved 17 minutes, but in the end is it his fault that our PG and our best player decided to telegraph every pass and that our best player and best FT shooter missed the one that would have sealed the deal ?? I just dont know.

EDIT - Worst thing Red did, as pointed out by other posters in different thread, was probably to not foul them on their last possession before the three point shot that tied.
Half of coaches choose to foul in five seconds left in the game. But half choose not to. I am in the camp not to foul. Yesterday we were just unlucky because in the past, especially BC, they always lost in OT.

Respect your opinion, but I am in the camp of foul em. They cant tie the game from the FT line if there is a three point lead.

I’m sorry…….unforgivable not to foul there. Don’t know when that would have been communicated. But that one is on the coach if it wasn’t. Could have been passed before Donnie’s miss at the line.

The continued turnovers by our PG is so freaking frustrating. While watching yesterday, as George committed one of his 7 turnovers, I thought to myself, that just isn't intelligent. It got me thinking, I think half of George's issues boil down to bad decision making, low IQ kinda stuff. He goes for way too many high risk passes. He doesn't play a smart game.

This was their Super Bowl.

Ah, the 'ol..."it was their Super Bowl" post.

Rather gripping how this particular type post has transformed over the years relative to those that actually believed it then (when we were good) to nowadays where it's simply humor/mockery type. And, unfortunately, truly owning such mockery status. Pretty pathetic how far we have fallen.

We should have a 6.5 man rotation. Betsey and .5 Souare. That’s what JB would do. Too much time on the bench today for Donnie, Kyle and Kingz.
on what basis is everyone certain suoare is better than diawara?

ive thought diawara looks like a better player in his limited minutes

The turnovers were comical. The BC defense had nothing to do with most of them. George turns it over twice within 10 seconds. Could be an ACC record. Red can take some of the heat but the players sucked at crucial times. Donnie makes a FT and we win. We won ugly our last 3 games but couldn't get away with it today. If the team plays like this the rest of the season who are we going to beat? ND? Maybe Pitt at home. We could end up with a losing record.
i agree most of the turnovers were unforced but give BC credit they have one of the best defenses ive seen this year...theyre 55th in Kenpom in defense. they were especially good at 1 on 1 and one of the few teams that had more blocks than the orange.

i think the overall defensive pressure did start to wear the team down late...and partially caused some sloppiness. i also think the scheme red runs late in games heavy iso was poorly conceived (as usual)

red needs to realize that george isnt going to get it done off the bounce and stop trying to force that - im guessing theyve told him to just dribble into the teeth of defenses even though that isnt his game - and if they havent, they need to tell him to stop...dont need that from him. need him to hit open 3s and find the open man on the pass thats it. stop being a "dribbler"

donnies turnovers were so bad...most of them slow crosscourt passes easilt intercepted...really really needs to stop that

Why did Kingz only take 12 shots?

This is the kind of thing about Autry of thing that drives me crazy. He was shooting great all game. Yet it seems like we ran nothing specifically to get him more looks. So the guy having his best game of the season ends up with the third most shots.
becuase about 7 guys on the team wanna be the main character

and apparently they all need to get a bunch of shots off every game to see if they are or not

Because the offense is designed for him to be the 4th or 5th option and we don’t deviate from that ever. Same reason he didn’t touch the ball in the second half against Tennessee.

This season is over. I hope the guys go out and play hard, but there is nothing to play for other than personal goals and pride at this point.
