BC postgame thoughts

I feel absolutely nothing. I think that’s worse.
Ya. Loses like yesterday are as sure as the sun setting in the west as long as we have Red.

My wife thinks I’m maturing but in reality I’ve just lost all hope with Syracuse basketball. If SU ever pulls their head out of their arse and hires a real coach I’ll be back to a maniac.

This board is crazy bipolar. We lose a bad game against BC and the season is over? Yeah, I don't think so. Will it be much more difficult? Sure, no denying that, but still in our control. I've been saying for a little while now that I think we can get to 7-2 in the ACC which would set us up pretty well for the remaining part of our conference slate. Well, the loss against BC surely hurts, but there are still games that can make up for it. I'm still in.

There was much more in that loss than who we played. That’s the issue. We will see but the light is dimming.

I hear ya but let's just say we win our next two. Those would be solid wins. They're also games we really should win at home. It would also put us in the position that if we follow with wins against NC St and ND, we could actually be at 7-2. I'd say that's right on track. So, a lot of work to do, and probably unlikely, but definitely not impossible. As a fan, at least for me, worth rooting for.

I get it and im just exhausted with this program as a whole. The 3 steps forward 2 back 2 forward 3 back and so forth is the trend line that even if we somehow sneak into the tourney it’s that trend which is heavily driven by coaching puts us in space we can’t accept for this program either.

Yeah, I can agree with this.

We beat Houston with Donnie; we probably win another one or two with him. My issue with this team is that they always play to the level of competition which is often an issue with coaching. I also think that Red doesn't have a feel for the flow of the game and or his players. The substitutions that he has done throughout the season have been head scratching. Think the world of Red as a person but so far, he has been mediocre as a coach. My sense is he needs to make the dance in order to be retained.

You need an extra “good win” (Q1) to offset any “bad loss” (Q3/4).

We have two bad losses, and one good win (and Tenn is sinking more each day).

So our Q1 win target is 5 or 6. It would have been 4 if we didn’t lose to Hofstra or BC.

While we have enough Q1 opportunities left on the schedule, so anything is possible, we all have watched this team throughout the season and have concluded there’s a low probability they play well enough to win 5 or 6 Q1 games over the next 6 weeks.

The thing about fouling BC on its last possession, is that you're then in a situation where you're up 1 point with just under 10 seconds left and you have to hit a 1-and-1 (BC not in double bonus). Your only competent FT shooter just missed the front end of a one-and-one. Everyone else is terrible at the line. And BC would have plenty of time to get a shot up to win in regulation.

No one knows that. BC effectively shut him down yesterday or at least made it so the rest of the team had to beat them.

If Houston had to play against Donnie, they were certainly going to keep a great defender on him. Also, Betsey doesn't get as many minutes and he doesn't go 4/8 from three.

He went 19/14 on 50% shooting? The turnovers were very bad, he makes bad passes often unforced. But they did not shut him down lol.

We win? Shut him down is hyperbole. BC employed the ol' "make the rest of the team beat us" strategy and Kingz almost did. Since Donnie has been back, here are his game scores from BBallRef where 10 is an average game: 11.5 (Clemson), 22.0, 16.9, 25.3, and ... 7.2.

And if a crappy BC team can do it, someone better like Houston could as well which is the original point. Freeman can't carry the load every game and it's not like people can just plug him into a line up in a loss and think it becomes an automatic win.

this isn't the way it works.
We're still competing against other teams' resumes.
Two losses against BC and Hofstra - coupled with playing professional-level teams we're about to play - make our shot at the NCAAT nearly impossible.

We were 58 KenPom and 82 in Lunardi's Pearly White Lunatic rankings.
Now?

My point is that we can make that game up with the games we have ahead of us. The season is not over, still a lot that can happen.

The thing that makes everybody more upset is that it's year three and everybody knows what the goal is and to still see the same issues is maddening.
