BCS Changes to be discussed...

I have no problem with the current system, I enjoy the regular season more in college football than in any sport because of the lack of playoff. If there was a playoff, though, I would want to still create some interest in the regular season. Therefore, I would want an 11 team playoff made up only of the champions of the 11 1A football conferences. This would still make the regular season vitally important. The top 5 seeds as determined by rankings (to keep the pollsters relevant) would get a first round bye. As icing on the cake, ND would be forced to join a conference and we might see more interesting early season non-conference matchups as a loss would not submarine a shot at the play-offs.

the regular season is virtually meaningless for most of the schools, TCU goes undefeated and can't play for a national title? there are over 100 1a schools and only 2 schools get to play for the title, it obviously is an inherently flawed system. you lose one game and that pretty much assures you that your school won't play for the title unless you're a name brand football program, and there are probably like 10 that are. and since when do most sports fans care more about the regular season than the post season? thats like saying I enjoy watching the Shell-Houston Open more than the Masters, and that there should only be two people playing for the Masters to keep the regular golf tournaments more important.

bottom line, you need enough playoff spots to accomodate the number of teams that finish the season undefeated. as a syracuse fan, even if we go 12-1, it upsets me that me wouldn't even sniff a shot at the national title, heck we could go undefeated and still get the snub

i don't understand how people can see no problem with the current system because there can be left over undefeated teams, thus, we don't know who would win us said teams played each other, and NO ONE can sit there on their couch and play matchup in there head and say for example, Alabama would 100% win against Boise or TCU; because Boise and TCU have proven they can beat them.

The "regular season needs to stay important" argument makes me want to kick puppies. Cute puppies.

In week 17 of the NFL season 13 of the 16 games had playoff implications, either for teams to get in, or for seeding. Cowboys/Giants on that Sunday night produced the largest regular season rating NBC has even seen for a prime time game.

Then a week later Pittsburgh/Denver racks up the largest wild card rating since 1987!!!

But yeah, having a playoff really ruined the importance and interest in the regular season. We wouldn't want an 8-team playoff where the last 2 weeks of the college football season is littered by a couple dozen games that would determine who gets in and who gets home field. It's much better to have like 3 games matter to decide #1 vs. #2.

Argh, where the hell is that puppy?!

:bang:
idiots will forever forget to imagine all the games that would matter with a playoff.

I mean THIS year especially. All the stat geeks said that even if LSU lost the SEC Championship it'd still be them vs. Bama for the title.

So yeah, those last 2 weekends of games in the regular season was CRITICALLY important, right?

Big10 vs Pac10 in the Rose.

SEC Champ to the Sugar.

SEC Runner-up to the Orange.

Big12 Champ to the Fiesta.

Everyone else is on their own.
Just wanted to point out in case no one else had that your scenario would have excluded Alabama this year. :D If you don't even win your own division you're out of luck. Change your division or whine to your league.

Here is what you do to fix the problem:

1. Keep the Bowl System & work within it.

2. Use two of the BCS Bowls as Semi-finals among the top 4 ranked teams, & the winners will play in the existing championship game.

3. Add one more BCS Bowl to get back to the same amount of BCS teams playing.(Cotton, Gator, Capital one?)

4. The two BCS semifinal Bowls will be held earlier than the other BCS games, with at least 2 weeks between the semis & the Championship game.

5. Keep the present lower Bowl system similar.

Get rid of the AQ and don't limit how many teams from one conference can go to BCS bowls. Which will kill off the Boise's of the world and the Big East as well which sad to say, NEEDS TO BE DONE!

And make a simple rule, if you don't win your conference you can't play for a national title. With only 1 provision, ...Unless you have had a perfect season and your ONLY loss in in the Conference Championship game. A team could be unbeaten and get tripped up there and that shouldn't kill their entire season if they are still one of the Top 2 teams.

So ... Alabama loses 1 game all season to #1 LSU, and they're ineligible to play for the title, but LSU can lose to #14 Georgia and they're still OK?

You realize that if LSU had lost to UGa, Alabama would have taken over the #1 spot, and LSU might have fallen to #3. How do you justify the #1 team in the country being excluded from the title?

Because Bama didn't win their DIVISION in their conference let alone win their conference!!! On some level you have to win SOMETHING to play in that game. Whether its your division or conference

Apparently you don't. especially when one could make a pretty decent argument that the two best teams in college football were from the same conference. Obviously, there is no clear cut answers but I think with what they had, the right two teams played
