Time to buy that emergency generator, you can use the excuse its to keep food in the fridge from spoiling when really its to keep the TV on. Warning generator should be outside with adequate ventilation!I am just outside Durham and hoping the power stays on until about 4pm...
Just curious -- does the hurricane effect FSU's flight plans at all? Is it possible they are coming a day early?
Nope. If you are on cable, they also require power on the street. Fiber/Telco services are generator backed up, as well as having a battery at your home. Satellite may have issue, as well .. A wired ground network, so could also be hit it miss ..
Ohh. Have a professional wire it into your electrical panel, if going into it. If you don't disconnect the street, you could energize the outside electric lines, and kill someone.
Indeed. OTA can be hit or miss, like wireless. Often they'll have a wired network to the tower. (A large part of my job is connecting all the towers to the world). You do not need to connect to your home grid for emergency use. You just run an extension cord to whatever you want to power, but you are right about not necessarily being able to get tv, depending on how you are set up and whether your over the air stations have back up generators.

Connecting improperly to the home grid is a very real problem for utilities, neighbors, in regards to safety. MANY are done wrong.
We have a whole house generator that runs on natural gas and is directly wired into the electrical panels. When the power goes off it automatically comes on...until we tested it this morning. Husband is now off to buy a new battery after wife has been nagging him for a week to make sure it had oil, etc.Time to buy that emergency generator, you can use the excuse its to keep food in the fridge from spoiling when really its to keep the TV on. Your system should automatically isolate your home grid from the external power suppllier, which is what Random Guy is so concerned about and is the source of problems that can be encountered if not done properly. Nice system.
Cali? C'est toi?Probably won’t be able to watch the game due to Zflorence running over the top of us but it would be a big lift to me if we kick the tails of the Seminoles

Ohh man .. Gluck with that.
Dunno about natural gas generators, but on a gas furnace there is a thermocouple at the pilot light. They burn out easy, I've replaced a handful. That'll keep it from starting, too.(it turns off the gas). Very easy fix. (If the pilot light won't stay lit, that's usually why.)
Gluck
Battery she is talking about supplies the juice for the igniter since the power is out when system needs to fire up, downstream from that would be the thermocouple, both of which must be functioning for system to operate, at least operate automatically.Ohh man .. Gluck with that.

Unfortunately it isn't the battery. And of course no available technicians with the storm approaching. So back to the old days of preparation for us. Containers filled with drinking water and tubs filled for toilets. This is what happens when you are on well and septic.
We are really old school...dug out an oil lamp.I'm with you. Old school style of prep. Got some xtra candles and batteries and 25 gallons of water. Gas for the grill

I’m installing one next month. What brand is yours? We have a whole house generator that runs on natural gas and is directly wired into the electrical panels. I'm in Charlotte and not feeling to confident that I'll have power for the game. I'll watch some on my phone. Don't want to kill the battery thoughI am just outside Durham and hoping the power stays on until about 4pm...
This one is twelve years old and is a Kohler 30RES. They don't make this particular model any longer but it has been very reliable...until now of course. It runs on natural gas but they do make them that run on propane.I’m installing one next month. What brand is yours?
