Belichick to UNC

dasher is a Bills fan? AND a Red Sox fan I believe?

How many people fall in that grouping.
Red Sox and Giants. And there are a lot of us because the Giants were the only NFL team on television before the Pats came along. Plus, we looked down our noses at the AFL when it finally did.

I think his glum, taskmaster attitude and deep football knowledge fit in great with the culture of New England. For every success like Belichick in New England, there are 25 others that fail. No one doubted his chops at running a defense but once he had Brady and was winning, players would put up with the no fun, do your job, ethos. Once they stopped winning, and players started making a lot more money in the last few years, the act tired. Every draft he had to find these small school diamonds to prove how smart he was and after a few terrible drafts, the talent level sunk as they couldn't replace the veterans from those Super Bowl teams.

He's a legendary coach but he's not a great coach forever. To succeed in college football in 2025, you need to be young, hungry and willing to work yourself to death and I don't think he is prepared to do that anymore. Greg Robinson's Syracuse defense had a schematic advantage over the competition and the scores and tape look a lot like what UNC is going through. It's about the players you bring in and how you develop them and he and his staff know very little about that. Only question is whether they dare run it back for a second year of this dumpster fire in Chapel Hill.

LOL I'm not a Bills fan. Sadly, I root for the Giants. Although the Giants did beat him twice in the Super Bowl
Well it appears I was mistaken. Even more confused now why you wouldn't appreciate Belichick considering his contributions to your franchise.

Or, he coached those players into their best versions.
Yeah. I don't know why people try to make this stuff either/or. Belichik was a brilliant coach and Brady is a alltime great QB. Walsh was a brilliant coach. I don't see people claiming he wasn't just because he had Montana. Was Chuck Knoll not an alltime great coach because he had Bradshaw, Swan, and the steele curtain defense? I suppose Phil Jackson wasn't all that great since he had Jordan, Pippen, Shaq, and Kobe. Elite teams have both great coaches AND great players. It's not really that hard to figure out.

Exactly
It's the same thing you hear about a Phil Jackson w/ the Bulls/Lakers: " If he didn't have MJ or Shaq or Kobe or Scotty or Rodman...blah blah blah", totally dismissing the fact that you still need a good HC to put it all together. Sports are replete w/ stacked items that never won anything, let alone a Championship.
Yes- he's a horny, arrogant old man who's totally destroying his legacy right now, but as Bill Parcels once said to his team after the Jints 1st SB: "You're champions now. They can never take that away from you". So is the same w/ BB- he's a great coach...can't take that away from him.

And there comes a time to realize you need to step away because the game has passed you by.
Sometimes you still have all the knowledge but lack the energy required to do the job right.

This isn't anti BB. I just look at facts. I loved the job he did as d-coordinator with the giants. Once again, having LT, Banks and Carson didn't hurt either.
Fact: Syracuse beat Clemson last weekend.

Fact: I closed my pool for the season last weekend.

Looking at those two facts doesn’t mean that Syracuse beat Clemson *because* I closed my pool.

Or MaYbE iT dOeS????? ;)

I thought you might be interested in a serious discussion. I won't make that mistake again. By the way, Bruce was 7-9 the year before he got Brady. Presto. He wins the Super Bowl. What a coincidence, Fact. you can't take off your fan glasses and talk facts. I was willing to let this go. You are now on ignore..

Oh Dash, you’re a pill. I was trying to have a serious discussion. But if all you want to do is repeat “facts, facts, facts” we’re not really having one, are we?

And I wear reading glasses, not fan glasses. I don’t even know how I’d see with blades whizzing past my eyes.

Oh Scooch, the Pats went 12-4 in Brady's last year. then suddenly, boom 7-9, 10-7 , 8-9, 4-13. I wonder what changed. Congrats on closing your pool. Want to ask me my favorite color? The records speak for themselves. With in my opinion the greatest QB of all time he did great. Without him, at any stop, he was basically decent. I don't get the blades line.

Belichick's horrific drafting from 2019ish onwards was what changed.

Using Matt Patricia as an OC after a 10-7 season with a rookie Mac Jones changed.

Not paying their elite players caught up to them as well. The roster was threadbare. It wasn't the in-game coaching.

I remember having Gronk back as a deep safety and it costing them a game. I'm sure there were a lot of other situations. I tend to watch only bits and pieces of them. I for years, played poker at the casino on Sundays. I guess I am just a result based guy. What does your record say you are. Everything else is just spin to me. I have heard he wanted Garofalo to play instead of Brady. I know he benched Thomas in the Super bowl. I know, speaking of Gronk, he wanted to trade him to Detroit. At some point..it's him

I think BBs biggest problem was he started to believe his own hype. He was clearly an excellent coach who forgot the truth of all high level sports...Jimmy and Joe> X and O.
