It's an incredible failure that he doesn't even take 4 of them a game.

The rest of the team is shooting .312 in conference. He's .421

Bell needs to shoot more than 19% of the three point shots.

Bell drives me nuts too. But with these bricklayers, you have to get him shots. And this offense does nothing to make that happen.

He has a slow release, can’t create shots for himself, doesn’t work hard enough to get open, and we don’t have guards to create opportunities for him. A shooting percentage is only a part of the picture. Yes, there’s “failure” there, but the fault is shared.

This is why stats only tell part of the picture.

Dude stinks for the litany of reasons laid out above.

Who is to say the staff isn’t actively trying to get him more shots? He does nothing to help himself.

Good luck with this crowd.

You need to understand, Bell doesn't get credit for anything he does well, whether he may have improved his game - he hasn't, and every negative thing he does is fair game to scrutinize and showcase.

These are the rules.

It's part of The Chris Bell Experience™.

The two things I see Chris excel at are: Shooting an open 3 point shot and when the other team has a fast break he does a decent job of hustling and blocking the shot.

I haven't been watching lately but hoping at least he has increased his footwork on D.

What has always been frustrating to me is when a lot of players struggle on O, not just Chris, the rest of their game falls apart. To me, it should be the other way around. Turn it up on D if possible, dive for a free ball, make a pick and do something to help your team win the game when your jumper isn't quite there for the day.

I literally cringe when the ball touches his hands this year. This poor kid has become Chuck Knoblauch throwing the ball to 1st base.

Imagine if he had Cooney's motor?
The guy who shot 29% from three in conference who we constantly had running the baseline with two screens to get him shots?

Maybe some of these smart people can explain what they're trying to do on offense?

He's shooting over 40% from three.

I guess that's close to knoblauch's percentage of good throws

If Bell's shortcomings meant no playing time, I would understand that. But given that he's playing, he needs more shots and that is a failure all around

Agree with all that.

I am not a fan

When he plays, he needs shots. What is the point of playing him at all ? Everything else they do on offense sucks. So you get all of his weakness and very little of his strength while still playing him

This is really the question. Outside of stationary three point shooting, and the infrequent chase down block, Bell is a lousy basketball player.

If he's too gun shy to shoot, and/or the team doesn't have the personnel to get him quality shots (because he sure as hell ain't gonna create for himself) then he shouldn't be playing.

Honestly, if we weren't in this historically awful era of SU hoops, he probably would be buried deep on the bench.

Bell looks like he’s turning down shots this year because he doesn’t want to see his percentage go down. He’s really only taking them when he’s wide open. The lack of shots is mostly on him.

If they did anything in offense, he'd get more open shots

Good offenses get open 3's. We take contested 2.9's

It's hard to get open shots when everyone stands around and the ball doesn't move

You keep saying this, but you cannot tell me he has done anything to seek out shots and help his cause. Therefore, you're screaming into an abyss that is created by mainly one person -- Chris Bell himself.

Can you run him off screens to get him open shots? Sure, you can. Does that mean he is moving without the ball, setting up screens, reading the defenders to create space properly? No. And that is a big part of the problem.

You can tell me all you want that he is great at shooting 3 pointers. It means little when it comes to putting yourself in a position to get more shots.

I agree. Unfortunately, Bell stands around. He needs someone to get shots for him. Which Judah, JJ, Copeland, and Maliq did last year.

No one cares if Carlos drives. If they double Eddie, they'll leave Carlos or Davis/Petar wide open, not Bell.

I wish they would do more two man game with Bell and Eddie, but Bell can't dribble or throw an entry pass, so kind of hard to get that started.

Bell just doesn't know how to play basketball.

Mintz created open shots for Bell and got him the ball in position for him to catch and shoot. There's no PG this year who can create shots for him and designing screens to get him open is not a strength of this coach. He's a defensive liability in a m2m. Which is strange because he has athleticism. JB recruited him to play in a zone where he wouldn't be so exposed.
