Best Offensive Lineups??

JB has repeatedly stated that Ennis is one of the most advanced freshman PGs he's ever coached. He had one bad game; he's not playing big minutes out of "necessity."

The substitution pattern you're describing is what JB has done with bigs who've started and not been ready. Ennis is a different situation entirely.

All summer long we were saying how Ennis will need to play big minutes because he is our only true PG. Is that not out of necessity? If MCW was still here, how much would Ennis play?

Grant minutes from last year are what I project for Roberson this year, and I expect him to demonstrate similar intermittent productivity. And that would still equate to him making a strong contribution to this year's team--reagardless of statistical production. Just like Grant "only" averaged ~4ppg last season--he was "better" than what those stats imply.

I tend to agree with the notion of Roberson getting "Grant" minutes from last season - the rotation is exactly the same, with Grant in the JS role, and Roberson in Grant's. The idea of struggling to see where the minutes would come from is based on the thought that Xmas would develop to the point where he would take more of the 4 spot minutes...that hasn't happened.

I disagree with Grant being better than the stats. He was effective while JS was out, but once he returned, Grant appeared to lose confidence to me. By the end of the year he was just a body out there, the FF game not withstanding.

I can't believe you or anyone would actually advocate benching our senior--the ACC preseason player of the year--for a frosh, just because he's having a poor game. JB lives and dies [and far more often lives] by riding his horses.

He doesn't? That's news to me.

Unless you are Melo, Gerry , or Ennis you are on an extremely short lease. JB had said it himself numerous times that freshman don't play at Syracuse . Not sure what you have been watching the past couple decades if you think otherwise?

Good pt, but the one difference being that rak is playing many more mins at the 4 this yr. ie rak rarely even started last yr to start the 2nd half. This yr so far he is...should be interesting to see how it shakes out

? I believe Rak started every game last year, and most definitely the start of the 2nd half. It was Coleman whom JB bucked the trend with in starting games, but not the half.

I have heard JB say several times over the years the "starters" are the players who get the most minutes. I think JB plays the lineup that matches up best with the opponents and who is playing well on offense. I don't think JB has a hard defined lineup. He seems pretty flexible on playing time based on performance.

But look at what you're saying, if rak started the 2nd half and cole didn't, that meant rak was at the 5 and not the 4, thus freeing up mins for grant at Frwd. Will that happen this yr for RobersonRoberson. I don't know

I'm not suggesting using this strategy very often, but it seems that none of our centers could defend the smaller inside guys for St. francis. They were all getting beat so why not use Jerami at center and either Mike or TR at his spot. Jerami is quick enough to cover them, it opens up space for Jerami and Cj to operate offensively especially posting up the smaller guys covering them. Baye could only foul them, DC couldn't cover them and Rak wasn't even rebounding the ball. I thought it was worth a try in this situation.

I have thought same thing this season and last. But duke is trying a similar experiment w Parker hood and Jefferson and they gave up 94 pts vs ku. Having said that would love to see JB try this...

Ennis would play a ton if MCW were still here. The player who would likely get edged out in that situation would be Cooney.

He was clearly better than his per game stats, as evidenced by his numbers and impact when Southerland was out. Once Southerland returned, Grant lost minutes (and rhythm) and became generally less effective. But he had shown his hand to NBA talent evaluators.

Prior to the season I predicted Roberson to get "Grant" like minutes from last year. Now the Sgt Cuse money is firmly planted on the under. JG received a boost in his average mpg's because JS was a knucklehead. I don't see Grant or CJ being an idiot so that spike is unlikely to occur for Roberson unless some type of injury occurs.

The road blocks to pt that were in front of Grant last year are even more so in front of Roberson this year. Rak will still start at pf, and he is now older, better, and more experienced (and for a little conspiracy theory, Rak is extremely needed next year - moreso than Roberson). DC2 is better and BMK is a trusted senior.

The schedule is not favorable. Roberson was late to the party and has a slow start. Next up is Maui and we're not going there with the intent to develop players. I don't see Roberson getting 14 mpg's this season.

I'll have to agree to disagree here, RF.

Regardless, all water under the bridge. Always fun to speculate though.

Yeah, not an argument by any means. I just believe that Ennis and MCW would start in tandem in that scenario.

I wonder what we'd be ranked if MCW had returned?
