West Virginia did something I haven't seen anybody do against Syracuse all year. Put 3 guys under the basket and chuck up a low percentage shot just hoping to get the rebound and put it back in.
Its something that teams have done MANY times against us over the years, but its never plan A, B, or even C. When teams resort to that it means our D has taken away every offensive scheme they drew up. We almost never lose to that kind of basketball.
The reason nobody has done that against us all year is because our D hasn't shut down every mode of attack like it did in this game (except the last game, but SDST isn't built to try for O rebounds like that).
We weren't sharp against WV, the ticky tack fouls inside KILLED us and is the only reason that strategy even came close to working. They shot 70 times and we shot 52 times and we still won! Its a testament to how good our D was (holding them to 37% from the floor even though they got about 10 free points simply because both our centers had 4 fouls and were afraid to contest down low) and how bad their D was allowing us to shoot 52% from the floor despite us missing a lot of makeable shots around the rim.
