As a supplement to docsu's good thread below, what are the best college basketball teams not to win it all in the ESPN era? Here, in my opinion, are the top half dozen...

1985 Georgetown
1991 UNLV
1996 UMass
1999 Duke
2002 Duke
2006 UConn

'91 vegas, no doubt about it.

'97 kansas gotta be on list too

1984 UNC. Brad Daugherty, Michael Jordan, Sam Perkins. 28-2, heading to NCAA regional game wtih Indiana, and Indiana pulled off the upset.

I can buy 1999 Duke, but not 2002. Also add 1983 Houston.

It's pretty damn hard to go through a major conference undefeated. That 99 Duke team was pretty sick.

Yeah. That Duke team had 4 players go in the top 14 of the 1999 draft, including the #1 overall.

I know that NBA draft position doesn't always correlate to college success, but that group of players were very good. Plus, they also had Shane Battier.

Yes, yes and yes. Also, '84 Carolina with Jordan, Perkins and Kenny Smith. The latter's injury problems are what prevented them from competing for the title.

The Kenyon Martin UC team. (Different team w/o him I know.) Also, as a college team, Camby's UMass team was really good. They had beaten us good that year, as I recall.

Also the ACC was historically bad that year.
