You couldn't pay me enough to be the commissioner of the Big East right now.

Don't believe anything you read on Orangebloods, it's just a PR arm of UT. If the non-Bevo schools think they have problems with UT's attitude, good luck dealing with ND's sense of entitlement. Can't wait to hear the howls from Stillwater when a 7-5 ND preempts one of their bowl bids. If they leave the BE good riddance.

That would be pretty shocking. Notre Dame headed the expansion committee! They wouldn't turn their backs on the Big East. Marinatto has full confidence in ND.

Another thing to consider is that the Big 12 does not offer many of the sports the ND plays - men's soccer, men's or women's lacrosse and field hockey.

Not being in for football means they only pay the $5 million exit fee, right?

ND is no loss as a non-football member, nor are they much of a gain as a non-football member. There's actually upside to losing them.

Sorry - I just don't see ND taking any of their teams to the Big XII. There are two leagues ND has nothing in common with - the SEC and the Big XII. Even the Pac-12 would be a better fit for them. If they go anywhere it will be the B1G or the ACC.

On the other hand, if ND joins the ACC, just look at this from a lacrosse standpoint:

Syracuse
Virginia
North Carolina
Duke
Maryland
Notre Dame

That's pretty much every elite lax program other than Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Georgetown, Loyola, and...and...little help here, guys?

Navy, Army

ND alumni are from the Midwest and the NE...the ACC serves them better.

I believe Orangeblood in this case because it was contained in a report that someone got from Missouri. So I believe in this case OB did some digging. But, I don't think it will ever happen. In fact I think ND may be wanting this out there and using for leverage with the ACC where they want that same deal.

Laughable. Better chance of ND winning a national championship in the near future than the program joining the B12. It's the B12's commissioner's last card to play with regard to enticing Mizzou to stay. They will call that bluff and head to the SEC.

Yup, complete and total BS. No way that ND goes to B12.

While everyone is putting down Orangeblood (and I have no opinion one way or another) the NY Post is reporting that ND is sniffing to get out of the Big East now. They offer several scenarios including the Big 12 but do indicate that with WVA going to the Big 12 they feel the Big East is ... well ... falling apart. If ND does leave the military academies are definitely going to take a closer look at the stability of the Big East.

Meanwhile on another front ,,, Pitino remains in a dream world. He wants Temple and Memphis to join in order to get back to the "core" of what the Big East was ... basketball. Sorry Rick, football remains the driving force behind any expansion. I guess Villanova is blocking Temple and Memphis would have to do some serious work to get their football team up to par. I wonder what Rick would say should the Big 12 come knocking on their door? I see the ship rolling over after the big wave has hit ... ahhh the demise of the Big East and, hopefully, UConn.

Anyone else get the feeling that Rick Pitino is going to have to walk back some of his comments about leaving the Big East real soon? The UL AD should be putting a muzzle on that guy.

Rick wouldn't say anything because he likely would not be consulted or involved in any way until the decision is made. He's a coach. Coaches are not involved in conference affiliation decisions. Afterwards he'll express nostalgia for the BE and talk about how they are going to the new best basketball conference in the country.

Anywhere that Louisville goes will be the best basketball conference ... according to Pitino ...and from their board and comments on other boards by Louisville fans THEY WANT OUT ... but so far nobody wants them in ... not as bad off as UConn ... but ...

I'd take the job. I'd announce to the remaining conference members that they are all welcome to stay but that the Big East would be discontinuing competition as a football conference. If anyone else leaves I'd have a short list of schools to contact to create a basketball and other sports conference that would rival any other conference. Not that tough of a job if you have the fortitude to do whats necessary instead of looking desperate to remain something you just aren't cut out for.
