Big East close to losing Notre Dame to Big 12

I'd take the job. I'd announce to the remaining conference members that they are all welcome to stay but that the Big East would be discontinuing competition as a football conference. If anyone else leaves I'd have a short list of schools to contact to create a basketball and other sports conference that would rival any other conference. Not that tough of a job if you have the fortitude to do whats necessary instead of looking desperate to remain something you just aren't cut out for.

Agreed this is what they need to do. Add a Butler and Xaiver for hoops if all the fball teams leave. try to keep UConn for all but fball as long as possible. Use the 5mil buy outs from exitting football teams to sell the new BEBBall, create some excitement and try to lockin MSG for a long time. Still even when they do this its only a matter of time before they feel the effects of no fball money. Its going to hurt and recruiting in bball for the remaining schools will begin to suffer.

This is the best post on this board in a long, long time.

ND would be welcomed to 3-4 leagues right now with full membership but I think any league would be crazy to allow them to remain independent in football. Allowing half the league's teams to be non-participants in the biggest revenue generating sport is what has been the downfall of the Big East. I think the ACC will wait a year or so to give ND a chance to reconsider their indy status, at which time they will offer UConn and RU(both of which appear very anxious to join) if ND won't give up their football independence. Both are very good academic schools(WVU's academic status is what caused their application to the ACC to be rejected). I think eventually ND is going to have to join a conference in football but their pride won't allow them to do so just yet.
