Big "honor" for Dion

I saw Dion as potentially a new DWade with LeBron having his back and being under his wing. I was disappointed things didn't work out for him in Cleveland. I wasn't trashing Dion, or attempting to, merely pointing out an observation that's not mine alone: he's not on the fast track to living up to expectations for someone with so much talent, and that, I believe, is sad. And at some point Dion must check himself before he wreck himself (Google "Ice Cube lyrics").

I was a huge Dion fan his first two seasons, long before LBJ became GM, all but fellated Dion at the start of the season, the posts are there for you to see. So, in your mind you see trashing, I see observation and disappointment. Including the observation that you've made note that I am a LeBron fan and you're not. Duly noted.
Come on Richard...what's the matter with you?
You're not allowed to have a legitimate opinion if it may in any way be uncomplimentary of an SU player, past or present.

Besides, don't you pay attention to history?
Remember how Dion was a changed man and accepted Boeheim's 6th man role for him.
He turned his attitude and life around.
Who are you to say he didn't and that was just a lot of nonsense?

What?!?!?
Some people can't handle the truth (or just don't want to)????
How dare you, sir???!!!!???

And by the way, stop apologizing.
You're right (unfortunately).
The bottom line is it appears Dion tossed away a chance to play with LeBron.
And that is sad.

It's painful to watch him waive his arms around at the bottom of the TV screen screaming for the ball every possession. When he does get the ball, more times than not he chucks up a bad shot or drives wildly to the hoop to throw up a prayer and scream "and one!" Still rooting for the guy but I'm sure he'll wear out his welcome in OKC.

This. It is amazing how many posters watch these games with the orange goggles on.

Remember the "Dion's in a good place" thread and how everyone was quick to say Lebron was not a leader?

:rolling:

I was the one who started that thread. I stand by starting it at the time. It came from a place of showing support for one of our former players and hoping he reached his full potential. That's nothing to be ashamed about.

I felt Dion didn't get enough chances in Cleveland, which he didn't. I felt at the time that Kyrie wasn't showing THAT much more than Dion to not give him a shot. I felt that Dion's current ability + his ambition would form an unstoppable combination of growth. At the time I attributed a lot of Dion's troubles to a poor environment for him, which was probably true.

Since watching him a lot in OKC it started to become clear to me that Dion had his current abilities and he had his great ambition and confidence. What he didn't have was a drive to relentlessly improve and be the best player he could possibly be. He wanted to be treated like a king, but not put in the work to be a king. I know MANY people like this in real life, especially living in Miami, and this strongly turned me off Dion since that thread. He was simply not the guy I thought he was. He improved his defense but he remains brainlessly inefficient and has done nothing to fix it. He is either stupid or stubborn and I lean towards the latter. I still support him and check box scores after every Thunder game, but I'm not as big of a fan as I used to be. That's not coming from a "screw all the guys who left early" mentality (which is 100% true on here by the way) but from a "I really believed in this guy, gave him a chance, but he's not who I thought he was" place. Watching Kyrie lately has made me even more annoyed with Dion.

Also, I still don't think Lebron is an above average leader and no smiley face you put up will change that. The vibe I get is a "the young apprentices look up to the old master" type leader, not a true motivating force. There's nothing wrong with that but watching Lebron's interactions with Kyrie on the court, it seems like Lebron is "too big" to give him too much attention. It's actually how many people act in Miami, I have no doubt 4 years in South Beach rubbed off on him. Plus his relationship with Kevin Love is strange. How could you let that happen? As an introvert myself I know what it's like when extroverts show up and make a clique, but then look at you weird when you're not extroverted like them. I have a feeling Lebron is the same way.

Was thrilled for Dion at start of the year when LeBron was touting him and seemingly upbeat over having Dion as a running-mate. Thought Dion was in a great situation. Didn't take long, a few games, for Dion to screw that up.

I see a lot of his games, his offense is meh, defense is improved, but it's become clear, he's not a team player, I can see him becoming a journeyman. What a contrast to see what a team that shares the ball, the Spurs, is doing to OKC at the Thunder's arena tonight. It's OK to be cocky and have a chip on your shoulder, but you have to back it up. He's still young, but I'm afraid Dion just doesn't get it.

The Scoop Dion connection is one of may favorite all-time player stories. I really like the idea of older players bringing younger players along.

MCW on fire. And CJ ripping up the D-League!

And AO had another nice night. 9/8 in 16 minutes, 4-4 shooting.

13 points on 4-21 shooting tonight. Not the best.
He was awful shooting tonight, but overall he had a pretty good game and played some tough defense. At the start of the game he was the catalyst for the Thunder getting a comfortable lead.
