Big news to share

What baffles me is that Kiyan and Betsey and Kingz all have very smooth and natural shooting strokes, but they're all in the 50s at the line. It's like some type of mental contagion has spread throughout our roster. I've never seen anything like this before in my ~35 years watching SU hoops.
Oh, I have...

That 1988 team was no doubt terrible from the line. IMO the difference is those guys were simply bad free throw shooters. Stevie Thompson just wasn't a good shooter. Seikaly was always in the 50s. Coleman improved a bit and was around 70% as a foul shooter as a senior. Sherm was always just OK. They were who they were.

Nate Kingz was 81% last year! Now he's in the 50s. I would bet my life that Kiyan was a very good free throw shooter in high school. Starling was 71% from the line two years ago at SU -- now he's afraid to get fouled.

In short, I don't think 1988 was capable of doing better. This team absolutely can do better, they just aren't right now for some inexplicable reason. The whole roster minus George has the yips.

Kiyan was in the low 70’s in HS.
