Blackout Looms of ESPN on YouTubeTV

Disney is losing $30 million a week.

This is surprising as it was originally reported that YTTV only demanded the same rates as others.

This could benefit all viewers if YTTV gets lower rates and drives rates down for other carriers. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Dear YTTV: Go with the matching rate until you reach XXX subscribers at which point it should go down.

Hmm...

I was going to go this route but I wanted to try this one day 6 dollar sling pass thing and see if that works I imagine at some point this will be resolved
I used the Sling day pass to watch the SU-Miami game. Easy to do sign up and then load the app on my Roku.

I finally got my damn $20 credit. Would have liked the $10 x 6 one, but this is okay for now. I've paid so far for a couple of hula one day passes w/ the sports pkg so at least the credit covers those. I'll still end up losing cash most likely because more hula one day passes are probably in my future, but at least it's okay for a couple weeks (that's when the real decision comes when my billing cycle ends). Then, the question will be...

Go Out Smile GIF

I haven't missed ESPN at all. It's become unwatchable w/ blowhards just talking/ranting incessantly to fill airspace. If there's a game I really want to watch, I go to a bar or friend's place. Sling's day pass has been great for our first two bball games.
You can actually hear the announcers over the crowd noise? My hat's off to you if you can.

I could care less about audio but to each their own.
I agree. I often turn the audio off, especially if SU is way behind. But I also watch some games, like extra NFL games, from behind and FF between each play. Don't miss the announcers and can watch a game in about an hour 20 minutes. Great to do on YTTV. They make so much "noise" and often add nothing.

Sounds like you may like a free app called Tunity that I discovered several years ago. Download it on your phone. You can aim the camera at the screen in the bar. It will recognize what it is and then play the audio from that feed on your phone while watching the screen in the bar. The audio timing even syncs up perfectly with what you are watching.

You could use Bluetooth ear buds connected to your phone and then have no issue hearing it at all.

Tom Rogers, media commenter, CNBC contributor, and an original founder of CNBC, was on CNBC's Squawk Box this morning to discuss Disney's release of 3rd quarter results tomorrow morning. Regarding the Disney/YTTV dispute he said: "It's kind of remarkable that this YouTubeTV controversy where the Disney channels, including ESPN, have been off YouTubeTV now for two weeks. That's just never happened before, particularly in the middle of football season . . . . " "There doesn't seem to be any end in sight." He suggested that Disney has lost some of its clout and strength in the market place.

and yet people are dropping YTTV all over to get access to games? Which is it?
YTTV/Google/Alphabet has much deeper pockets than Disney. Must think they're playing the long game & they'll prevail in some way. And, that they'll regain the lost subscribers and more.

Man that app was epic when it first came out. I didn't think it was still around!

Well to be fair, as soon as they get ESPN back I will go back almost instantly.

I am pretty sure Google is aware that they have built a great streaming platform for cable TV and they have the $$$ to deal with short term losses knowing most will come back.

I’ve stuck with YTTV. I bought the 5$ sling deal for the football game against Miami. I actually haven’t missed ESPN, right now. There are plenty of other games on to watch, which fills my need to watch college football. It’s been an eye opener. It helps that there is only one SU game left on tv, that I might watch. I actually stopped watching the Miami game at the half and went out to dinner with my wife. BC game I will be at. Anyway, I haven’t been stressed about no espn. Eventually it will get worked out

Have not used it in a long time but yes its still around. It can also be useful when working out at a gym and running on a treadmill or something similar.
