Blake James out as Miami AD

Just as Miami finds their QB of the future, the noose around Diaz neck tightens

Heard there’s a big push from former players to get rid of Diaz and throw everything at Cristobal to bring him home. The belief is Cristobal would have high interest and would receive buy in and support from alumni at financial levels they previously wouldn’t commit to.

Lots of ifs, but if Cristobal goes back to the U between the transfer portal and keeping Florida talent home he’d have them rebuilt pretty quickly.

If Cristobol does jump, UO will slide over Moorhead as they have done almost every time they lose a coach. Chip Kelly, Helfrich, Cristo.

IMHO, if the Canes gets Cristobol, it will be the biggest hire for the ACC since Dabo. If Miami is still serious about football and Marco would come home, they have to do this.

Not the best year to lose to Florida State.

Agree. Miami can re-load given the right coach with the right support. I think Cristobal can be the guy to spearhead it and they would lock up the Miami area immediately.

Feels like they would have to throw the farm at him to get him to come. But maybe they will.

What if Cristobol doesn't want the job?

I picture someone like him saying if you're serious then lock in plans to build an on campus stadium.

Having a stadium 30 miles from campus isn't helping them.

Nobody in their right mind is leaving Oregon for Miami
I have no idea if there really is interest.

There have been reports Cristobol wanted the UM job in 2018 and Blake never even gave him an interview.

What I am saying is, if Marco is still interested, Miami better go after him. It is crazy Blake didn't even inquire in him when they had the opening in 2018 and ended up spending all that money for an unproven candidate.

The timing is not great with no AD in house. The chancellor and the board need to take the lead on this. If Miami was in the SEC, I am sure they would go for it. Will Miami? This is one of those special opportunities I think you have to go for if you want a big time program.

Agreed. Florida State is down. Florida is unstable. ACC is down and Clemson seems to have taken a step back. Now is the time for Miami to make a move. Bring in Cristobal and let him leverage the transfer portal, NIL and talent in FL and this is a unique opportunity for them to start up another successful era for the program.

Miami isn't a big-time program though. They aren't anywhere close to a big-time program in this modern era. It's a private school in South Florida. They are going to learn real fast this isn't the 1990's or 2000's if they have eyes on people like Cristobol or head coaches at that level.

Really disagree. Cristobal was born in Miami, grew up in Miami, was an all conference player and won two national championships at Miami. Was a monster at Bama recruiting kids from Florida.

All people talk about is how nobody takes the Pac-12 seriously or pays much attention to them. He can move back home to South Florida and build up his alma mater with the support of all of his former teammates and fan base with a clear path to be the lead program in Florida and a path to the CFP each year in a down ACC. And get a lot more attention doing it by being Miami and on the East coast.

Will he do it? No idea. It’s not a crazy move though if he does.

Yup. Some of the traditional or recent history big dog schools are black holes in today's game and are chasing the "it" programs.

Sure they still land top talent, but is it really top talent if they keep underachieving and not developing?

I have a theory that in recent classes, kids from Florida are being over valued on recruiting sites, solely because they are from traditional big time high school programs in Florida.

They aren't the same level as kids from those programs 20-30 years ago.

Looking at the 1996 All CNY Football photos yesterday, those kids at 16-18 looked way older and bigger than the All CNY kids today.

Things are messed up at Miami right now (and in the recent past). Not sure they have enough time to realistically get things polished up for Cristobal.

Consider/Remember:
  • Leaving Oregon on a high to "come home" to FSU did not work so well for Willie Taggart.
  • Oregon is on a solid path the the College Football Playoff and Cristobal won't leave before that ends, which is about 6-7 weeks from now. Nor should he. Would the Canes wait that long? Doubtful.
    • The Ducks have three regular-season games remaining: at #24 Utah (7-3)/tough test, vs. Oregon State (6-4), Pac 12 Champ Game vs. either Utah (again) or Arizona State (7-3).

Oregon has NIKE money behind it. Miami has Uncle Luke from 2 Live Crew funding it

I would be stunned if he left Oregon for Miami. And if he did I would question his intelligence honestly.

Not to mention in the Pac 12 he is the big dog at the big dog program with all the money. In the ACC, Clemson may be down this year, but that is the exception and not the rule. Who wants to put up with them to get to a playoff?

Agreed, he's not leaving not should he

Their fans talk a lot about how Ted (the Hoo) Foote and Donna Shalala killed football by raising academics. They rejected/didn't pursue a lot of recruits that would have been admitted in the Da U days. How much influence will the fans have in comparison to the Alumni who like the improvement in academics? (It's a rhetorical question on my part because I have less than no idea.) The new AD may also have to find a replacement for Larranaga.
