Blake James out as Miami AD

Oregon has NIKE money behind it. Miami has Uncle Luke from 2 Live Crew funding it

I would be stunned if he left Oregon for Miami. And if he did I would question his intelligence honestly.

Not to mention in the Pac 12 he is the big dog at the big dog program with all the money. In the ACC, Clemson may be down this year, but that is the exception and not the rule. Who wants to put up with them to get to a playoff?

Part of the rumor is that Cristobal would rally the Miami donors and up their financial commitment. Oregon of course has the Nike money but I don’t know if that’s everything. Still think Cristobal’s recruiting ceiling at Miami is higher than at Oregon. The emotional lure of going back home could also be very real.

And Oregon may be the best team right now but is hardly the top dog program in the Pac-12. USC gets a competent head coach and they’re back headlining pretty quick.

As far the ACC, I’m probably in the minority but I think Clemson’s best days are behind them. They won 2 rings in 3 years with a generational DL group that had Watson and then a Lawrence/Etienne combo in the backfield. That DL group moved on and they’ve been blown out in the CFP two years in a row and now obviously big step back this year. They’ll of course probably be back in the top 5-10 but the window of them being in a completely different universe than the rest of the ACC or replacing Bama is probably over.

It wouldn't take much for Miami to rise to the top of the ACC. Lots of issues at ACC schools:

Wake- does Clawson cash in and move to a bigger program? Even if he stays Wake takes a step back next year.

Clemson- would Dabo leave for Bama when Saban retires?

NC State- they seem to be an 8-5 type team every year. I think that is about Doeren's ceiling.

Lousville- I am not a fan of Satterfield. I would not be surprised if next season is his last. Especially if Cunningham does not come back.

FSU- I think next season is their HCs last

BC- Hafley will try to get out of dodge the first offer he gets.

Pitt- I think they are a 9-4 type of team. Does Narduzzi look for a bigger job? Michigan State if Tucker goes to LSU?

UVA- they are solid but won't be much more than an 8-5 type of team.

VA Tech- their best days seem behind them and will have a new HC.

UNC- they will have talent but Mack won't get them over the hump.

GA Tech- a bit of a sleeping giant but their HC hasn't been able to turn the corner thus far.

Duke- a mess right now and not going anywhere.

Miami is not a great job IMO anymore. But Cristobal is a Miami guy so there is a chance. It wouldn't take much for Miami to be a top team again.

I see that for brevity's sake, you did not list the issues at SU. Smart move.

Miami consistently recruits 10-15 top 300 kids and still don’t win. Lousy coaching hires is the issue not their recruiting. Miami can recruit enough players just by driving less than 100 miles from campus.

I think this is a bit overrated.
The talent in Florida is WAY, WAY over-mined and I think you are seeing this in the performances of all of the Sunshine State schools:

Div. 1
  • UCF (6-4)
  • Miami (5-5)
  • UF (5-5)
  • FAU (5-5)
  • FSU (4-6)
  • USF (2-8)
  • FIU (1-9)

Non Div. 1
  • Stetson (4-6)
  • Bethune-Cookman (2-8)
  • Florida A&M (8-2) - State Champs!

What’s happening with DEriq King next year?

The freshman looks to be their guy for the foreseeable future. I’d give him a call.

He's a senior

He’s missed the entire year bar a few minutes he’ll get a medical redshirt if he wants it.

Already redshirted in 2019 at Houston.

2016: 10 games
2017: 10 games
2018: 11 games
2019: 4 games (redshirt)

2020: 11 games (Covid freebie)
2021: 3 games. Can't redshirt again.

He's had 6 to play 5.

Doubtful the NCAA grants him a 7th.

I posted it elsewhere

I think Florida kids are being overrated by the recruiting services, just because they are from historically solid Florida High School programs.

Lots of kids are tweeners at the college level and aren't developing physically enough in college to justify their high school hype.

Basically they are freak athletes in high school who peaked and don't develop much more at the collegiate level.
