Block or charge?

The addition of the circle underneath the basket made this rule worse. The officials used to try and make the correct call before the circle. Since the circle was added if the defender falls down it’s automatically a charge.

Guys are undercutting offensive players and getting the benefit of doubt. It’s probably going to take someone getting injured for this rule to ever change.

Agree. It seems like they just look at the circle. That one wasn't even that hard watching it in real time on the video. There was literally no way the offensive guy could avoid him with how late the defensive guy came in.

i lament the fact that defenders play to get into position to get this charge...instead of, ya know, trying to play defense...and stop the defender with a block or pressure...

the defender is not actually trying to play defense...merely stand in the way of the opponent

something is wrong with that scenario

imagine someone did this playing pickup basketball...

if no one would ever do it playing pickup ...should it be part of the sport?

Am I the only one who gets even more incensed when the color guy chimes in with; "It's a tough call. Could've gone either way". Seriously?
Call it for what it is; 'That was a horrible, game-ending call. IMO, they blew it".
Just once...
100% agree. It wasn’t a tough call!

I would like to see a rule change such that a secondary defender must play the ball--strip it low or block it high. Otherwise, it's a block. Probably too radical for the rules makers, but it would mean more basketball and less flopping (which isn't a basketball play).

im along the same lines as you...I still wanna see offensive foul calls when the driver is out of control though...no matter if the defender is set or not...primary or secondary

just do not like that defenders are literally playing the game of getting to a spot to stand there and create contact...seems antithetical to the core essence of the game.

it goes both ways ...sometimes the driver just rams into the defender to draw the foul without actually trying to score too...which i dislike as well.

these things happen very quickly though...its hard to ref.

but i like the adjustments the nba made to get rid of the absurd stuff harden was doing to draw fouls...that could be the model for this too
