Still another David vs. Goliath match-up as the Memphis Tigers, fresh off a real win over Mississippi, take on the Sooners of Oklahoma.

Memphis also won the yardage battle, running for 257 yards and passing for 447 for a total of 704. They engineered 35 first downs. The Sooners, who are getting back to running the football, did so for 405 yards, which must have warmed the hearts of Bud Wilkinson and Barry Switzer but added 212 yards passing for 617 yards and 35 first downs.

For Memphis, Paxton Lynch completed 32 of 44 for 447 yards and four scores. They had two 100 yard rushers: Doroland Dorceus carried 32 times for 138 yards and 2TDs while Jamarius Henderson got 112 yards on only 14 carries and also scored twice. Mose Frazier caught 10 passes for 128 yards but never scored. Anthony miller and Tevin Jones only ahd 9 catches between them but three were for scores. Henderson caught the other TD pass.

Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield was a modest 15 for 22 for 212 yards and 2TDs. People talk about Leonard Fournette but what about the Sooner’s 5-11 237 Samaje Perine, who gained 201 yards rushing in this game on 23 carries and scored 4TDs. Then there’s Joe Mixon who rushed for 154 yards and 2 scores on only 16 carries.

"Powerhouse teams continue to pad their schedules by playing over-matched opponents instead of giving us what we want: powerhouses vs. powerhouses. You sometimes wonder if they aren’t competing with each other to see who can run up the biggest score, more than against the pathetic team they’re actually sharing the field with. In response, I’m going to post a weekly fantasy. I’ll take the two largest offensive scores rolled up by ranked teams and created a game between them by listing all their scoring plays as if they occurred in the same game."

Actually, this week the opponents were not over-matched opponents scheduled to provide automatic victories- they were conferecne oppoents. But it was sitll fun to do.
