Has there been any discussion or is it even possible they move the Big dance back a couple of weeks so that teams can amass critical mass of games? Make-up postponements?

CHAOS

Given they haven't even announced where the tourney is officially yet etc, I would assume anything is possible.

I thought they announced Indy? Same final 4 weekend?

They will let every team in and extend it a few weeks.
Reading between the lines from comments made by some ADs, including John Wildhack, I think the conferences asked the NCAA to move the tournament out a few weeks, to give time to make up games that were not playable the first time through the schedule.

The NCAA said no.

I assume the reason is that the only way the NCAA gets the full payments for TV rights to the tournament is if it is played to the scheduled timeline. CBS and others have time blocked off for these games in March. Pretty sure money is driving this. Pretty sure the conference went along with it because they want the full payments too. It was decided it was better to get all the money they could and live with a lot of postponements and cancelations in the regular season.

I agree but I think they are looking at starting it earlier. The conferences are just going to have to accept that league schedules are a mishmash and the NCAA makes it all okay by opening the door for every team.

The idea of inviting all teams was floated (by the ACC I believe) and rejected by the NCAA a long time ago. No way you can do that and do a bubble. The NCAA has adopted a bubble strategy. Plus, inviting everyone would impact the timing of the tournament, which I think could affect the payoff from the networks.
There is a fundamental conflict here.

I do not think they are going to revisit this for the tournament this year. Maybe at some point in the future, when the pandemic is gone.

But I could be wrong...

ACC Tournament is March 9-13.
Selection Sunday is March 14.
Final Four April 3-5.
Masters is April 8-11.

Same as always.

If anything I can see the tournament shrinking in size for this year to reduce the potential for spread. I suspect they will keep 64 for TV but I am sure they are evaluating smaller field contingencies.

Either way picking the field for this years tournament will be a mess like never seen. It was hard to compare teams before ... what do they do with a bubble team with 12 games played?

I agree with the comments above in that this year will be a circus! I like the idea of canceling conference tournaments and starting pre-quarantine to prevent issues during the NCAA tournament. As soon as any postponements arise during the tournament, it will implode. If you have to quarantine, same as a loss. Of course I think we are about to learn a lot more about quarantines and postponements over the next two months.

While I would miss the conference tournament, canceling it to allow ample time to quarantine makes a lot of sense. Also, with our history in the ACC tourney, why not?

They aren't really letting everyone into the tournament are they? Tell me this idea was just floated. If so, I hope it sinks. I would prefer a normal field with maybe more play in games for bubble teams.

We dont win without him tonight. Kid balled out big time. Most active player in the zone in years.

He was fantastic today! But maybe just a bit of hyperbole.;)
