I didn't hear that part of the presser, but I'm guessing he was playfully teasing. JB also complimented Reggie' shooting ability and toughness.

What skills are required to teach "Man to Man"? Every player has played M2M almost exclusively since they were in 3rd grade. M2M requires no coaching. Zone does.

Wrong, wrong, and wrong...Tell that to tom thibodeau, erik spoelstra, izzo, huggins...there are different types of man defense...example...the heat jump the pick and rolls and trap hard, mike woodson completely goes under screens with his d..with your logic its complete luck that teams like pitt wvu mich st gtown are consisently good defenses just bc of their players and not tne system...and whenever jimmy has gone man his teams suck at it bc you have to have a set system and great communication principles not just hey go guard your man n thats it bc your 3rd grade coach said so

Exactly right..you think Spoelstra would be able to attack the ball so hard if he didnt have Lebron and Wade? of course not.

Seems silly that your defense doesnt change, even with completely different players with different strengths and weaknesses.

You couldn't be more wrong about coaching "quality" M2M.

Looks like a Igor thread. We play Zone. We recruit players specifically for the Zone. It has nothing to do with ability. It has everything to do with intent and with percentages. JB is the original moneyball coach. We play Zone we win 75% of the time except this year when we win 93% of the time. It's a brand standard.

FYI- if you look at some old game tapes, SU played mostly M2M until that run in '96.
After that it seems JB fell in love w/ the zone, & by 2003 it was all we played.

It's amazing that some people are so dense as to think m2m is an instinctive skill. It takes longer to learn those nuances, and that's why you see some of these great m2m teams struggling early on and steadily improving as the season goes along. JB's zone is the opposite - great early on and then its "magic" slowly wears off.

We have Jason Cippolla to blame for this whole thing. If he doesn't make that shot, the zone goes back into mothballs the very next season.
