The cost of travel is as prohibitive for them as any other school in way games east of the Mississippi. Uou think TCU didn't sit down and figure that out just before they said "Hell no we won't go"!

TCU didnt come because the Big 12 came calling...they were set until Pitt and 'Cuse walked and then rumors about WVU...
ESPN just had a lead on Boise St and said that would not join the BE unless there was as BE-West.
So how many teams make BE-West...obviously Boise St and Air Force do not make a half a conference...

Boise State indicated Thursday that football travel in the Big East could cost an additional $200,000 to $300,000.

The Mountain West distributes between $1.4 million and $1.9 million a year in television revenue to each of its member schools. Kustra said under current media agreements, the Big East distributes $3.7 million to its football-playing members.
"But the Big East contract is due for renegotiation in 2012 and knowledgeable sources universally point to significantly increased conference media revenue in the upcoming contract," he said. "No guarantees, but a very strong likelihood, in my judgment."
The new deal could be worth $8 million to $10 million annually to each football-playing school.
Going to BE will give Boise and extra 2 million at least. An extra 8 million a year at most.

Probably with the new contract, that number will be closer to 8 million a year EXTRA money.

They also are going to be on television ALOT more than they are now.

Boise has already dropped the (Jim Boeheim reference) ... "This is not the same MWC that we joined up with"

Boise State is in the Big East, there is no way they say no ... they are just negotiating the best deal/teams they can get right now.

Cali, read up before you post. They already travel, traveling another 1,000 miles or so 4 times a year at the most is not going to significantly increase costs.

Discontent is already brewing, at least among Boise State fans. Talk about a Big East West Division. Talk about coming in for a couple of years, then splitting with the basketball and eastern schools and taking the AQ with them. Talk about insisting on all-sports membership for the western schools. All this is just talk, of course, but I think the same sort of discontent and seeds of dissolution that have plagued the Big East Hybrid forever are only going to be exacerbated with these new Mountain West refugees. Some interesting ideas and warning signs on this Boise State thread:

Sounds like a familiar tune.

If you had a true Western division it could work for hoops. Double round robin within the division and one trip to the other side of the continent taking in 3 games (Thu, Sat, Mon). That's 16 conference games.

Boise St already travels far in the MWC. For football, the switch will cost $200-300k/yr which is more than made up for by increased revenues.
