Bowl Game Times

Hoops Final 4 seems to be ok with it.

NFL playoffs do it in the early rounds.

I think NYE ratings are going to be worse than anything you'd see on that Saturday. It's America's night out.
I am thrilled that these games are on NYE. I havent been out on NYE in about a decade (because its amateur night and the worst night ever) and I will welcome something to watch aside from falling asleep on the couch at 11:00

I think the New Years Eve playoff games will be a blip. Makes no sense. Shows the power of the old boys running the Rose Bowl. Yes, the playoff games should be New Years Day but the Rose Bowl wants to remain the marquee game of the day. Saturday, 1/2/16 would have been a fine day for the national semifinals.
Who cares what the Rose Bowl wants? The semi finals should get the marquee spots on New Year's Day. Every other bowl is ultimately inconsequential, albeit still entertaining to football fans.

How many cases of PBR did you get and are you having any buddies over to share them with?

sick. Watched no football as of yet. I hate this time of year

As predicted and I knew this would happen. The Semi-Final games dropped in ratings by almost 40% being on New Years Eve. Last time you see semi-final games on New Years Eve, take that to the bank. ESPN and the organizers won't let this happen again. TV ratings were terrible.

Can't have major playoff games on the biggest party night of the year and expect people to stay home and watch it on TV. The vast majority of Americans are out and about on that night not staying in watching sports.

Well, I assume the semis won't be played on New Year's Eve next year.

Ratings for CFB semis tank
Yes they will. You'll be watching them again on 31 December 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2025.
Any time that the Rose Bowl is not hosting a CFP semi-final, the semi-finals will be on New Years Eve.

Better get used to it!

Not questioning, but how do they measure that we and 2 other families visited our neighbor from 4pm-1am on NYE?

That's 4 HHs down to 1, but we're all watching.

I guess I say this knowing that I've never heard of anyone that's one of those being tracked for this data

ESPN better get used to poor ratings

But that's the case for all major sporting events (ie Super Bowl) and such. It's factored in. Bottom line is having the games on New Years Eve was an utter disaster like many thought it would be.

Already in talks to change it and move the semi-finals to another day. ESPN wanted to do that this year, the organizers balked because of short notice. Now that the ratings are back and they see how it was beyond horrible, changes are in the works to move those games.

We'll see... I still suspect that things will move to an 8-team playoff after the first cycle of the CFP... 4 more years in the current cycle.

Nielsen homes, there are more than 50K that contribute to TV ratings at this point, track visitors and guests.

And all digital viewing is not yet included, but will be within the year.
