Interesting numbers. Roc do you think we just quadrupled their salaries too, or are we saving some money here? All told there salary was roughly $700k. If we are now paying 2.1mil those are huge raises. Wish we could keep more auxiliary staff like Drew Robinson with the money saved here. Build out more resources

You got some funny math going on. I got $800K from my calculations.

But they all got at least 75-100% raises, I have no doubt. And I would guess that there is money left over for bonuses if the staff does well, or incremental increases based on performance.

No need to spend like a drunken sailor if there's no need. I'm pretty sure Brian Ward would be happy with making $275K. And I think that's more than a generous salary based on his prior experience.

Yep my bad, was looking at it on my phone and didn't factor in the coordinator salaries in my estimate. I am with you though they are all getting huge bonuses, which as a working man, makes me totally jealous. Ward spent one year at BGSU and is now going way up in responsibility and pay. Heck of a thing this coaching gig. Anyway, I am all for not just paying for the sake of it. Sowder making 46k is low, but do we have to pay the kid 125k now? Just seems like a crazy investment without proof of purchase. Hope we spend wisely and make sure to incentivise as much as possible. Build up the program.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how the assistant coaches' salaries are determined? Does the head coach have a say in the AD's decision?

Unfortunately for small private schools like Syracuse, I think the market is set by the big boys. Now we don't have to play on their level, but each time they take a step up, the bottom rung gets moved up. OSU paying Urban 7mil makes the SU's and Wakes have to pay their coach in the 1.5-2.5 mil level. Its a dog eat dog profession. Hence my concern about paying a young staffer like Sowder 2 or 3 times more. Kid was making 46k this year. Does that mean at Syracuse we have to pay him 150k? I sure hope not, at least until he proves himself. Then pay him what he's worth.

Maybe initially, but you gotta believe that just like any other company/industry, these guys know how much others in similar positions are making and will eventually push to be as close to equal as possible.

All sports pay is based without proof of purchase. Have you seen salaries of rookie players in any league?

If they win, they will.

Mostly used to be the case, now every league has all the rooks on a wage scale or something similar. Entry contracts were ruining the NFL & NBA and by ruin, I mean the owners were still making infinity bucks.

That assumes he was only worth 46k.

I'd venture to guess he's worth a lot more, and BGSU got a bargain. The guy is partly responsible for having the 4th best offense in college football. Now, I know, he was at a factory, but still.

I have this argument with HR at my company all the time because I'm responsible for a talent incubator. Whenever our team members are promoted it works against them that they were paid less to get started in the incubator. Even though the company values heir new job a certain way and would be an external candidate more if they get hired. It's dumb. It basically says you are valued less than the job. Then why are you confident promoting them?

These guys are now P5 coaches. Pay them like P5 coaches.

This is all up to Babers and Coyle, but I would imagine many of these guys saw at least doubles or triples.
