The schedule: http://espn.go.com/college-football/schedule

With the playoff season winding down, I'll finally be watching a few bowl games. These peaked my interest

Saturday 12/27 8Pm ESPN Holiday Bowl, Nebraska vs. Southern California
They're down right now but I'm a sucker for confrontations between legendary programs. I spend the game thinking about the great years they've had in the past. How about '95 Nebraska vs. '04 USC? And please be in your traditional uniforms, not some Nike or Underarmor crap.

Monday 12/29 9PM ESPN Texas Bowl Texas vs. Arkansas
Back in the day...

Tuesday 12/30 10PM ESPN The "Foster Farms Bowl" Stanford vs. Maryland
I don't usually watch the bowls with the ridiculous names but My brother is visiting San Francisco and got his masters at Stanford. He's going to this game so I'll check it wou't so we can talk about it afterwards. He'll also be at the Niner's game a couple days earlier so I'll see if I can get a gander at that one, too, (although NFL Red Zone is done for the year).

Wednesday 12/31 8PM ESPN The Orange Bowl Georgia Tech vs. Mississippi State
I always watch the traditional bowls games and somehow I like this match up. (Sorry, the Fiesta Bowl is not a traditional bowl game)

Thursday 1/1

12:30 ESPN The Cotton Bowl Michigan State vs. Baylor
The Spartans are my second favorite college football team and Baylor is worth watching any time, (although I want to see them play Oregon someday).

5PM ESPN The Rose Bowl Oregon vs. Florida State
No comment needed.

8PM ESPN The New Year's Day is back, with multiple games that have a bearing on the national title. Now let's go to 8 and have four of them!

Saturday 1/10 1PM ESPN North Dakota State vs. Illinois State
It's not a bowl game but the Bison go for their 4th straight FCS national championship.

Monday 1/12 8:30PM ESPN The National championship game.

Sunday, 2/1 6:30PM NBC The Super Bowl

Then it's on to March Madness!

No SU hoops?!?! Go to your room!
Oh I'm watching. I must admit though, I'm much more of a Syracuse football fan. I'll support every part of the program, however, I love baseball and football. Love watching hoops, but they don't build me up and break me down like football.

After 50+ years of following sports, I don't get broken down, just disappointed sometimes.

It's all part of the passing parade.

I know I'll be watching three games from beginning to end: Iowa - Tennessee for family reasons and then the playoff games - Florida State- Oregon and Alabama-Ohio State.

Other than that, there are several that I want to catch at least a good portion of, but none that I just have to watch the whole thing.

I hate that the National Championship game starts at 8:30 on a monday night. There's no way I'm staying up for that game when I have to be up at 5 am the next day. Why can't they remove head from butt and put it on a saturday? "We don't want to compete with the NFL, blah blah blah." The only way I'll ever watch that game is if we make it there.

I take great joy in watching Rutgers lose so I will watch some of their crappy bowl game against North Carolina today. As for North Carolina how can anyone consider playing Rutgers a reward for having a winning season.

Something tells me most Alabama and FSU fans aren't waking up for jobs that tuesday morning.

5am?? There's no way the game is lasting till 1am.

And 4 hrs of sleep is all anyone needs, unless...well for the holidays ill refrain.

Go to sleep early on the following Tuesday.

Seriously???

Because less people watch TV on Saturday nights, whereas pretty much everyone is in front of their TV in some capacity on a Monday night.
It was really a hypothetical question meant to express my frustration. It's a game I'd like to watch, but I'm not sacrificing 3 hours of sleep to do it. If they're so hell bent on having it during a weeknight, it makes more sense to kickoff at 7. Sure, west coasters may miss kickoff, but at least everyone can see the second half. The way it is now, everyone can see kickoff but much of the east coast is going to miss the end of the game. What matters more, the beginning or the end? Since I know I won't stay up to see the whole game there's no point in me watching any of it. I'll just catch the score the next day. I would prefer they have the semifinal games two Saturdays before New Years Day and have the championship game on New Years Day with kickoff at 6.

Really, you think there's no way the game is lasting until 1 am? Have you paid attention to how long games last? It's almost certainly lasting past midnight. If you like living life perpetually tired on 4 hours of sleep that's fine. I'm not a glutton for punishment, so I'll miss a game that means nothing to me so I can be rested the next day.

If you like living life perpetually tired on 4 hours of sleep that's fine. I DON'T, BUT FOR THE 1st EVER COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF FINAL, I WILL DO SO. I'm not a glutton for punishment, so I'll miss a game that means nothing to me so I can be rested the next day. THEN DON'T POST.

I'm not sure I'm following you - if it's a game that means nothing to you, then why are you expressing frustration over it?

Better question, how can you be rewarded for a bowl when you have a 3-5 Conf record?

I will be at the Peach bowl, TCU-Miss. But now that it isca 1230 start, how to pass the time until new years??

Have to root for BC against Penn St -- even though I don't like either.

Saturday is not a good tv night, sometimes you have to suck it up and stay up, go to bed earlier the next night.

The College Football Hall of Fame is only a block away.

Just because it doesn't mean anything doesn't mean I wouldn't enjoy watching it. How many people enjoy watching the Super Bowl even though it really means nothing to them? A lot. And the NFL is smart enough to choose a day and time when most people can watch it without difficulty. ESPN/college football isn't.

If it's an event people care about, it is. The basketball tournament seems to do fine on Saturday. And actually I don't have to suck it up and stay up. That's why I won't.

KaiserUEO, I'll post as much as I want to post. Despite your name, you don't run the forum.

sufandu, ESPN is making the economically rational decision. Having the game on Monday night will result in guaranteed higher ratings than having it on a Saturday, which means more ad revenue. Also, having it on a Saturday would mean having it compete with the NFL playoffs which would be ratings suicide.

Unless you have a job that requires you to be extraordinarily well-rested and alert (e.g. brain surgeon or pilot), just drink an extra cup of coffee the next day and stay up for it. You'll be alright. I mean how could you want to miss Bama/Oregon potentially.
