than either Scoop or Waiters. And JBs presser comments made no sense saying Scoop was dishing off and making plays...guess JB doesnt count TOs and missed shots...I am dishartened by lack of Triche playing time if he was not injured. Here are the box score facts per ESPN at 1:55 AM:

Player Min FG 3pt FT ASSTS TOS Steals Boards
Scoop 32 1-7 0-3 1-1 8 4 2 1
Waiters 35 3-12 1-6 2-4 3 0 0 5
Triche 21 2-5 1-4 2-2 2 0 1 3
Additonally, SWC indicates that Triche net points were 2X..that is double either Scoop or Waiters...
so what was the reason Triche sat out. Perhaps the problem is that Triche as the 2G was not shooting enough...although his 40% was significantly higher than Scoop's 14% and Dions 25%. Yes Scoop had 8 assts...but also had 4 TOs and several other bad passes that did not count as a TO.
The team went scoreless for over 4 minutes at end of game and did not get one open look...Scoop and Waiters took rediculous shots.
We won and that is good for 'Cuse...but did JB have a mind fart or blonde moment in this game...even in the last minute or two, he left a near 90% ft shooter on bench and played a 50% FT shooter...ouch. What was JB thinking...and saying Scoop is the point guard doesnt hold water for me...in fact, the bucket is leaking.

Because at the end of the game Boeheim has other players he would rather have in the game. No more, no less. It's not like triche was playing too good himself.

I think that JB realized that we needed our guards to penetrate based on Gtown putting outside pressure on us and he knows that scoop and dw are best at getting to the rack and beating pressure

IMO...Brandon Triche should have been in the game at the end of the 2nd half instead of Waiters. He missed a couple shots earlier in the game, but overall, I trust him over Waiters in clutch situations.

Seriously, who are you? Your incessant infatuation with all things Triche leads me to believe you are either his 1)girlfriend 2) sister 3) Mom

Do you ever even think about anything other than Triche?

I mean, it's fine if you are one of the three persons I mentioned above but the women in Brandon's life shouldn't use the internet to constantly rip the rest of the team in order to build him up.

Actually, you havent read posts that were pro Scoop or Waiters or...but really, are you one of the few who can tell me why Triche wasnt in most of the second half...forget the last five minutes...how bout the 10 minutes in between. I think the rotation used this game was terrible at the guard spot...you really would keep a 50% FT shooter in with a minute + left vs. a nearly 90% FT shooter...and when your team doesnt score for 4+minutes at games end...its time to insert anyone...MCW would have done better.

Me? I'd have had the better free throw shooter on the floor at the end. That said, I don't obsess about all things Triche like you do and just assume that JB has his reasons.

Really wasn't a game where you needed the better FT shooter -- never was a situation where the opponent was out of options other than to foul in the backcourt. When we have that situation in other games, I expect Brandon will help close the games.

JB sees Scoop as his better PG (3rd in the league in assists) and Dion as his better scoring guard who can handle and penetrate. BT had two good pull-ups, one a 3 in transition, one a 2 in a half court situation. Good for him. And I would still go with the better PG and Dion in the clutch against a defense like GT.

I love Triche but I was really frustrated with him all game. I hope, before long, he realizes how good he can be. He spent the whole game taking 2-3 dribbles to the top of the key and then faked a shot, often several times, and then dishing off. He should just shoot it...as he did on the one break for the 3. JB went with Dion for his penetration and explosiveness and Scoop for the playmaking. Triche can be as good as either of those guys on those qualities but he just isn't pushing it, he's a tad deferential or unsure.

Our team played like they were hungover, Triche should have been on the court more PERIOD. Now I'm hungover.

Vicious Circle!

So, here is the pattern. Against teams with tough defensive guards (Marquette, Georgetown), JB wants Scoop and Dion in key situations. Better handle, better dribble-drive penetration.
In some other situations (West Virginia), Triche can find more space for spot up shooting. When SU has a lead, trying to close out games, expecting to be fouled in the backcourt, Triche is our best weapon. He isn't our best at getting his own shot or getting into the lane.
We have 3 good guards -- JB tries to match the pairings to the defenses, as well as to who is playing better.

That makes sense. Best post in the thread.

I found this photo on Syracuse.com, which I think pretty well sums up why JB might not have been able to put Brandon in the game:

Turns out he couldn't find him.

It's really simple guys. In a slowdown half court slugfest JB trusts Jardine to handle the point (remember he's already said Scoop is our only guard who thinks like a point guard) and he knows Dion plays the best defense (as has been proven by the article that was posted yesterday). It doesn't seem to matter that Triche is our best ft shooter or is having a better game than either Jardine or Waiters, all that seems to matter is what Jimmy's gut instincts tell him.

Cheers,
Neil

No way Scoop or especially waiters has a better handle then Brandon. Brandon is by far the best guard on the team with Williams being second. simple fact is you will never win an NC with Scoop. He makes far to many mistakes ande just doesnt have what it takes to get to that level. Dion is faltering as the season goes on and also has a very poor shot selection. This team would be better with Triche and Williams as the primary players in the rotation. They are just smarter players with a greatewr skill set.

I guess you know a lot more than Jimmy Boeheim then. You should facebook him and discuss.

The biggest problem I have is that JB has 4 very good options at guard and he doesn't adjust to that during the course of a game. Why can't he play all 4 and go with the guys down the stretchy that are playing well in that game? Scoop and dion were playing very poorly so why wouldn't you put Brandon back in the game who is playing solid ball? It just doesn't make sense.
