Box Score is up...

Only 9 PF's called on us, 15 on them. That must be a record of some kind. They did let em play and there wasn't much battling down low.

LOL ... when was the last time no one got more than 2 fouls in a game?

Didn't see the game, so these numbers are as good as a replay. 8 guys with meaningful minutes, the rotation is set, but with several easy wins to come, both MCW and Rak can expect to get much more run and could crack the top 8 by tournament time. James 3-6 from deep is of course huge, and he was rewarded with 18 minutes. Only 10 assists on 35 fieldgoals is not good, but I guess the NC State ole defense demanded all the isolation. Let me guess, M2M for them the whole time? Gottfried needs to learn to run a zone, you cannot man this team, good grief. 8 turnovers is just great. Outrebounded again, expect to see alot of that this year. Great win, LGO!

The refs were OK all in all

I was worried when they let the NCS player get away with the walk while leading 16-13, and he passed to an open teammate for a 3pter.

One thing I notice - only 10 assists credited for us, 21 for NC State. Home cooking with those stats right there. I don't like to call out people who keep stats because that's what I do for a living, but really? Only 10 assists on 88 points? No freaking way.

Missing at least three block shots from Fab Melo ... not sure you should rely on much else in it either.

Another crazy box score. Just like the Florida game where if you looked at most major stats and didn't know the final score, you'd think they won. We gave up 58% shooting, got outrebounded, and hit only 7-13 from the FT line, on the road, and still won by 2 touchdowns. Like What!?!

To answer the above questions, NCSU did play zone for a few stretches. It was a strange game, they got very hot for spurts but when we got hot in our spurts it was absolutely fatal. Southerland coming in and going 3-3 from deep in about 4 minutes blew the game apart in the first half. Then they erased what was a 17 point lead in about 4 minutes to start the second half. So Dion and Scoop just go ahead and rebuild another 18 point lead. Overall incredibly impressive.

Especially when we made 11 3's. James made 3 himself, I don't think James Southerland has ever created a 3 pointer for himself in his life.

I read something really interesting a while back posted by a guy who used to keep stats on NBA games. Basically, it was an unspoken thing (and not always unspoken) to give the benefit of the doubt to the stars. So David Robinson may be more likely to get credited with a block, or the scorers were more liberal with giving assists to guys like John Stockton. Made me think.

sort of like errors in baseball. Can you imagine how poor Jeter's fielding % would be if they actually scored properly at Yankee Stadium?

Look at the minutes distribution--8 guys playing major minutes.

Would have been nice to get Rak a few more minutes somewhere in there--but oh well.

Jesus Christ. ESPN says "SU Passes 1st Test as #1" Did they forget about FLA?

We weren't #1 when we played Florida. ;)

Cheers,
Neil
Well, sure, but wouldn't a game against SUNY Oswego be our first "test" as number one, had we played them tonight? Crazy. We're good regardless who we played, we're still #1 in the GD country. It's a shame we get knocked for our OOC, I'd say we've played a pretty regular OOC compared to everyone else.

Are we going to break a Syracuse record (maybe a national record) for most bench points scored in a season?

Just ridiculous.

Yeah, and about midway through the first half it looked like NC State was going to shoot 90%+ from the field ... and we were only down by 8. That box score looks weird but all those turnovers are making it look like we allow higher FG%.
