Currently in his 2nd season with the Celtics. They sucked last year and are a borderline playoff team this year. One could presume that his tenure at Boston could come to an end in 3 more years if they continue to miss the playoffs and flounder below .500. It would be an interesting option if he came available during JB's exit window.

I still love Hop, though.

This is a fairy tale. No shot, but would be incredible. We can dream.

I don't think so, you said it yourself by saying they sucked last year and a borderline playoff team this year, they're getting better and they traded their best player this year. They have a TON of draft picks this year and can make some moves. He's part of their long term future.

Odds of it happening are fairly low, but if Stevens can't turn it around by year 5 then the option becomes more plausible.

At the very least it would create an interesting debate if he (or any other high profile coach for that matter) became available in the next 3 years.

Like Jake said in this thread and others have said, he fits well at IU. I don't think he would come here regardless.

I said in this in the other thread. Indiana is going to put feelers out to Stevens. If Stevens doesn't want to bail on Ainge/Celtics Crean will get another year. If Stevens will bail on Boston the Hoosiers will probably pop Crean.

Why would he bail on Boston? He hasn't even been there for 2 years. I doubt he would have left Butler for a 2 year gig in the NBA hoping a top college job would open up for him. Boston is in an excellent position with its current players and draft picks coming up, they took Stevens to help build and they're building now, why would he leave or they force him out? Syracuse could put feelers out on Calipari right now and it would probably have the same effect as IU doing that with Stevens.

Because the nba blows and college coaches cant succeed there. He will get his brain working correctly again, realize he made his whore money and go back to where he belongs which is college basketball.

I'm not saying he's leaving Boston anytime soon. However, if he can't turn the Celtics around by year 5 he may have no choice.

That's a long long way away. Hopkins should have around 55-60 wins for us by then.

So you are saying that Calapari is coming to Syracuse? That's awesome! I mean if we are going to be accused of cheating we might as well get all the best players.

I'd never take him over JB but if JB wasn't here I would in a heartbeat.

Rumor is he left Butler because he wanted the Indiana job and after Crean won the 2013 B1G regular season and got them a 1 seed he save his job. So Stevens took the NBA money from Boston which was a lot of money.

However, Indiana has subsequently missed the postseason entirely last year and barely scrapped in this year as a 10 seed. Indiana thinks its still the 1980's and they are an elite school. Stevens to IU makes a lot of sense.

Here's the thing about Stevens and the Celtics. He's done well, but I can't imagine he enjoys the constant roster turnover, which is going to continue. They aren't one player away and all of their picks aren't going to be enough to get up in the top 5, so look for Ainge to keep tinkering through trades and not go into Philly tank mode.

It wouldn't be surprising for Ainge to go all-in on Love this off-season which could keep them in the playoffs, but not in a position to win the East for the near future. It wouldn't be that shocking for Stevens to go back to IU and have complete control. It takes a while for pro coaches to get that power that college jobs give them.

Boston loves him. They're trying to tank and he's got them contending for the playoffs. Give him a roster and watch out.
Boston doesn't want to tank. They acquire Isaiah Thomas because Stevens wanted to try and scrap for a playoff berth. Once Boston realized it couldn't finish bottom 5 and they were stuck in that 8-10 range they decided to try and make the playoffs in the East as a 7 or 8 seed. If Stevens does get a legit NBA roster your right he could do damage. I love him as C's coach they need a legit rim protector and 1 more forward and they will be good in the East.

Bingo on Love to Boston. Rumor is Ainge is going to offer Andre Drummond a max offer sheet as a rFA this summer and Kevin Love a max deal. I doubt Detroit won't match, but they need a rim protector and somebody like Love and Stevens could get them to a conference finals.

Eh, if he's playing the same style as at Butler, I would pass.

Marcus Smart punched some dude in the groin yesterday - seems like the Butler defense is being employed by the Celtics now. Bludgeon everyone to death. :)

My uncle's brother (my godfather) coaches/coached him at depauw university and his ultimate dream is the IU job. He would leave the NBA in a nanosecond for IU, its his ultimate dream.

That would be quite the feat, since Drummond isn't a restricted FA till the summer of 2016. But whenever it happens, like you said, I would be stunned if Detroit doesn't match.

If Stevens leaves for Indiana in the next year or two I doubt it will be because the Celtics management forced him out. The guy is a hell of a coach, and not really playing the same system as in Butler; Celtics are 5th in the league in pace factor, for instance.

Sorry I was off a by a year. Boston needs a rim protector more than any position. Drummond is the guy Ainge wants. Maybe they trade those Brooklyn Net lottery picks and get him via trade, but Ainge wants Drummond/Love and has the cap space for it.
