We have landed a winner. HC Dino Babers just CRUSHED that opening presser. His energy is incredible and he will do great things for Syracuse Football. There is zero doubt in my mind with that.

He is polished, articulate, energetic and passionate about turning things around here. Thank you to AD Coyle for bringing him to us. He will be a natural recruiter who will bring in highly regarded recruits.

What a win. How can you not love this guy?

 
Very impressive. The media had so many leading questions and he handled them all with ease.
 
Coyle thanked him for believing in Syracuse like 5 times. He knows he got the right guy.

Also loved when Coyle smirked a little and said that he was a D3 WR and playing in the controlled environment was a consideration.

Agree, this was a home run presser. Dino is everything I hoped he would be; personable, articulate, smart and prudent not to reveal too much.

I thought the Syracuse press corp did a poor job asking their questions. They failed to get almost any details out of Dino and blew many opportunities to follow up on interesting things Babers said that were not prompted by their questions.

I think any number of people on this board would have done a better job...

As a reporter I was dying to ask follow-up questions while watching and hoping I heard a similar one from the press corp. All I heard was bud asking basically why we should care about football anymore, and the other post standard guys trying to get him to say something stupid.

Who referred to him as "Dino"? Shouldn't he be referred to as "coach" or "Coach Babers"? Am I crazy?

I was embarrassed for the city and the CNY region. The problem is with the PS people. I hope they address the situation before these clowns run it into bankruptcy.

I like young Bailey. The rest...not so much. Bring back Dave Rahme. Make the PS worth reading again.

These local reporters, sans a few of them, are the most negative people ever.

It would seem that while Syracuse is a hotbed for communication education, it is not a hotbed for communication careers.
 
Devil's advocate here. I would imagine that some of those follow-up questions will be explored in 1 on 1 interviews. Why? Well because of the pageviews. If I'm Bailey and others, I want to spread things out over a series of posts rather than give you all you want to know at once, so that you keep coming back to read what I post.

Not saying it's "good" journalism, just the reality of modern media.

Yes I agree with this. He is having a teleconference today at 1 pm.
 
I want to start with the BOT. When they didn't renew Cantor, they hit a home run with Syverud. Was so impressed the couple times I've spoken to him and have only heard great things from those I know working at SU. A home run all the way.

Then Syverud hits a home run with Coyle. Almost 100 interested, here narrowed to less than 10, then final interviews with a couple. Just another home run.

I've been trumpeting Syverud and Colye for awhile now and is why I said the football coach I wanted was whomever Coyle and Syverud selected. It appears that's another home run.

Have we ever had so many home runs? Not just SU football but Syracuse University is in for brighter days ahead. Kudos to everyone.

Well said. Syverud seems to be the hire of the century and it has been a domino effect of checking the box since.
 
As happy as I am about the AD crushing this hire I can't help thinking that a great guy had to lose his job, and a great fan base list their entire coaching staff.

Don't forget the homeruns from the men's cross country team and women's field hockey team. Only foul ball was the change in JB's suspension.

To be fair, I think you need to credit TGD for X-country and FH, rather than the new regime on the Hill.
