On Rochester radio, says Hopkins is best man for the job as future head coach. He says this waiting is not fair to Hopkins and they need to come out and say he is the guy and do it soon.

On the 3 years to retirement, he says that "intends" is a big word there. He could very well leave early in such a way that Hopkins has to get the job and be able to prove himself. i.e. make the announcement the summer after the Olympics and its to late to hire somebody else.

Hopkins deserves the job more than anybody, but may not be the best fit for the job.

Through the years I've gone back and forth in my head on if he should be the next guy in line. I'm starting to lean towards bringing in a proven commodity, somebody like Jay Wright or better, anything below that tier of coach I think you give Hopkins the job.

Can Jay Wright play a style that will lead to success at Syracuse? Call me skeptical. He hasn't been past the first weekend in 6 years. He's really only had 3 seasons that we would consider successful at Syracuse in 15 years. If he doesn't get past the first weekend again, he's no different than Dixon.

He should be able to recruit better in Syracuse than Nova.

So your screen name is 23zone...yet you want to kill the 2-3 zone on The Hill? You must be crazy. Hopkins is the only damn choice in my mind. Keep the 2-3 zone alive, Hop and Gerry are two of the best recruiters in the nation...lets keep on rolling baby

Hopkins gives us the best shot at preventing players from transferring out and he already has connections at the schools we tend to grab a lot of recruits from. Hopkins runs a lot of the stuff behind the scenes, so he's handled a lot of head coaching duties except running the show on gameday.

I'm much more comfortable with Hop than Jay Wright, Billy Donovan, or some other 'proven commodity'.

I want consistent winning basketball, whether it's JB at the helm, Hopkins at the helm, Jay Wright at the helm. Doesn't matter, don't care who coaches or what defense they play as long as they win and hopefully win many big ones.

Gerry is one of the best recruiters in the nation? List the guys he's brought in.

We have to remember until the last two years, they were in the same conference as Syracuse. He's had Mcdonald's All-Americans on his roster. Villanova has won the title before and been to final fours. It's not like its hard to recruit at Nova especially with the talent pool in the area and the next big man to have success with Wright will be his first. Donte Cunningham was nothing but an undersized 4. Basketball wise Villanova has been a better job than Pittsburgh throughout histroy, yet Wright has won less games than Dixon, but nobody wants him as coach.

You'll get the style points with Wright, but I don't think you get the wins.

242-97 - Jay Wright last 10 years

263-92 - JB last 10 years

Jay Wright can win games.

I'm going to agree to disagree. If he can't get to the sweet 16 this year that tells me small ball doesnt work. it's been since 2009 past the first weekend. If that happened here we would be wishing for JB to retire.

Billy Donovan has more titles, and as many Final Fours as JB (in a fraction of the time, no less). But you'd be more comfortable ith MIke Hopkins.

Not sure I'd put Gerry in Hop's class just yet

Yes

Shaka Smart.

If not Hopkins, that's who I'd prefer to see get the job.

My money is on Wisconsin as Smart's next and possibly final stop.

Whether Hop is the best choice is irrelevant in my mind. He has stuck with the program, apparently, based on promises that were made. I'd be very disappointed in SU if they back off those promises.

Exactly. He's turned down jobs to stay here with a contract to be the next HC.

I love syracuse University. If Syracuse isn't loyal to mike Hopkins because a guy from G-town who has been in town for 10 months wants someone else, they will be dead to me. And that says a lot.

Well, 14 months, but who's counting? ;)
