Brent's advice to the ACC announcers......

I didn't grow up in Syracuse, but I always just applied the same pronunciation as I do to "syrup". No one says "Sarup" do they?

Cool article though. Thanks, CTO.

No, but some people say care-a-mel while other people say car-ml. Personal dialect preferences I suppose.

Aside from my four years in Syracuse, I've lived in Metro NYC my entire life. And I've always pronounced it Seer-a-cuse.

Sara-cuse sounds like the Olympic ice skater from a decade or so ago.

I'd kill for a Wegman's here in NC. Harris Teeter just doesn't cut it for me.

Bojangles has good chicken, but their biscuits are the best. If you are ever in the vicinity of one, grab a Boberry biscuit. You won't regret it.

Many people go crazy over Chick-Fil-A as well, but i'm in the minority in thinking PDQ is the best chicken place around these parts!
I moved down to Atlanta last year and Chick-Fil-A is poultry crack. One of my New Years resolutions is to eat less Chick-Fil-A because ive probably put on 5-10 pounds since I came solely bc of that restaurant. Nevermind the fact that im shaking like a crackhead on Sundays because they arent open.

"These announcers have given me an entirely new respect for silence."

:D

I put on that much weight every trip down south because of the amount of sweet tea I drink. That stuff is my crack.

I remember vividly that during the 1987 NCAA Tourney some announcer repeatedly pronounced it "Seer-RACK-us" and I don't remember if it was the same guy or a different guy but in the same time period was saying "Rony Sa-KILE-ee".

Sear-a-cuse, hard s, short a --- also how do we stop the clapping thing? It only gets mentioned on National TV when it takes us forever to hit a basket. Drives me crazy.

The Saracuse doesn't bother me as much as saying Ennis scored when it was Paterson. I can't stand it when the announcers get our players wrong.

The other thing I can't stand is when the announcer goes in low voice "Syracuse scored" or just says nothing but dead air. And then when the other team scores, "ST JOHNS SCORED!!" in a loud voice or whichever team we are playing. I simply can't stand it when the color commentator takes sides!

Oh, oh! Lawrinson! Can you photoshop a picture of Tyrone Biggums with a bunch of Chik-Fil-A food?

You people from CNY and your love of Wegmans. It's really funny to someone who grew up outside the area and doesn't actually have the opportunity to go to them except for when I travel (nice one down by Princeton, NJ). When a group of displaced CNYers get to talking about Wegman's its comical.

This is timely as I was just in Ralph's and hear Wegman's being mentioned (felated as the best) and I straight up asked the guy if he was from the Rochester area.

He said "No way man I am from Penfield"

And by the way, Vons >>> Wegman's

I don't know, but it seems like 90% of the people I sit around hate the stand and clap and bitch about it with every miss.

I just stand but don't clap. It's my form of silent protest. I'm sure the powers to be could come up with something better. Also while we are at it lets get rid of a deuce for the Cuse. And I would love to see the students take ownership to lead some new traditions.

Grew up on the North Side. I pronounce it Seer-a-cuse. Always have, always will.

This.

Tipperary Hill alumnus who got dragged out to sleepy Camillus starting in 4th grade through the Great Ordeal at Ludden. Seer-a-cuse then, Seer-a-cuse now, Seer-a-cuse always. The rest of you are just ***ing wrong.

Stop the clapping, I bet you that we would NEVER go past the first TV time out, before we score a basket. EVER again.
If there was a record, we would have the one fo,r longest to score a basket, at home, in the second half, we would have that record BY FAR!

But how can anyone pronounce aluminum "al-you-min-ium". Ah, those Brits.
My wife's cousin pronounces aluminum "al-you-min-ium".... and he retired from ALCOA... drives me insane.
And, he has been married to a Brit for 55 years. Guess it can be blamed on her.:)
