Bright spots

That's an awful response so what our third teamers are better than there third teamers. That doesn't mean much when the first teamers are playing when the game matters.

Look I am all for Hunt starting and that has nothing to do with what Hunt showed on his one drive because it doesn't matter if our third string players are better than there third string players. They have no impact on a real game. I want Hunt to play because I have seen Allen play 9 quarters of awful football. I wouldn't have cared it hunt played for that drive or not.

I think it has more to do with the extra dimension that Hunt brings to the table than it does with a mop up duty drive. Hunt is not Pat White but he can run, is elusive and seems to make things happen. He's also a pretty good passer. This is what people want - they don't much care about that drive.

Personally, I'd also like to go with the QB who's going to be here next year. If Hunt and Allen were really 'this' close then I'd rather have the younger guy playing now.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I just feel like Hunt is the better fit for what George Mc is trying to run on offense. I feel like watching Allen out there is watching Perry Patterson try to be a West Coast offense QB. It's brutal to watch. I almost feel like our offense is playing with a live hand grenade when Allen is on the field.

Yeah Hunt was playing against the third team, but it just seemed like when he was in there, everything was smoother, there weren't glaring communication issues, and his mobility and presence fit the offense. Allen just looks like he's forcing it and he's confused. Maybe it helps also that Hunt has been in the system for a much longer period of time.

I agree that I would rather have Hunt in there because he can't be worse than what Allen has shown.

I will wait to comment on Hunts in game ability until I see him live against the other teams starters and no these next two games don't count. I want to see how his skills play out against ACC first string players. But his skill set is more intriguing to me than Allen's arm.

To me Hunt is an unknown because of how little I have seen him play. I couldn't make the spring game, but it seemed as though people seemed relatively encouraged. Allen's pocket presence, poise and knowledge of the playbook have not been good. He is also doing the worst thing a quarterback can do which is give up the football. I would be interested to know how close the competition was this summer and if anyone has actually seen how effective Hunt can be against our ones. If Allen was really that much better, then I hope we see him make progress, but if he was not that much better it seems like a no brainer to give Hunt some time. Just be open and honest with them that both are going to play this week and be evaluated. Not a thing wrong with competition. If Allen's psyche/confidence can't take that, I guess that is his problem.

Loved, loved what I saw out of Kendall Moore. He is a really big target with a smooth glide and good hands. On that 1 series he was in, he hauled in 3 passes for 37 yards and a touchdown. Hope to see more of him this year ASAP.

Beckett Wales was walking around campus today with a boot on his left foot.

Might not have a choice but to play Kendall. And yes, I just quoted myself. Boom.

That sucks about Wales. High ankle sprain can ruin the good part of a season

I was worried about Wales...darn, I hope he doesn't rush it and it heals quickly.

I can't believe I'm talking about punting, but Riley Dixon is so, so much better than Fisher. He greatly diminishes any return opportunities and had two punts inside the 20. Ok, I'm done talking about punting.
Interestingly, both looked good warming up. Fisher clearly struggles during games.

Here's a hint, nobody likes relentlessly negative and snarky. And no it's no being a realist, it's being a dick.
No you're right. The brightest spot will be the Dome lights gleaming off those empty bleachers.

Enjoyed the post, but what does it say that out of all the bright spots, only one is a starter?
I find it encouraging that this staff realizes, that getting players into the game against good competition, improves you down the road. Doug was all about the starters, and seldom played others even when the game was out of hand. It also shows the starters that if you aren't playing well, someone else will play.

9 Quarters Phil? 9 Quarters? How many games have they played Phil? How many? Now how many quarters in a game Phil? Come on Phil, you're better than that. j/k

I know people are saying it was 2nd and 3rd string in a 4td game, but i absolutely loved the intensity Hunt entered the game with. He was a man on a mission. It could have been easy to come in with no emotion at that point, but he sent a message to the staff with his performance. it was much more then just mopping up the game. He showed that he is prepared, and wants to play. I really think he could have won over the coaching staff, and more importantly the team with that effort. You can see when he scored just how excited everyone was for him. I think you saw right there who the teams wants.

It was also good to see Quinta Funderburke come in ready to go, and make a couple nice plays. The kid looks the part, and more importantly produces whenever he is given a shot. I have seen him play 4 times, and in 3 of those times he has made at least a couple plays each time. I'll say it again, but I truly believe he is still in the dog house, and earning back Shafer's trust. HCSS doesn't seem like a coach that would take lightly if you slipped up in the classroom.

In regards to Hunt, he came in and showed great poise and command. This makes it much easier for the staff to know they have a kid who can come in if Allen is off to another bad start.

Competing in practice is a completely different deal than competing in a game. Hunt, granted it was against backups, showed what he is potentially capable of doing. Tough to say what Hunt would've done against the 1's that Allen had to face.

He needs to be given another shot against Wagner and Tulane. Then the staff can make their QB decision during the bye week leading up to Clemson. I would seriously give each of them one half to play. Against those two teams, it gives them an opportunity to do this.

Ideally I would like to see whoever is going to be the quarterback going forward get the entire Tulane game to establish themselves. The staff have seen these guys since the beginning of August now, I think if you let them split the game vs. Wagner it should be enough to see what they can do. I'd like to see whoever wins the job really go out and put it to Tulane in an attempt to gain some confidence. I don't think we can afford going into the Clemson game with anything but total confidence in their qb. A thorough dismantling of Tulane could help a little.

Can't wait to see this kid get a legit chance, love this pride:

People give up way to easy.. if you a true fan just wait for the turn around, loyalty defines who you are..

Wagner is horrible. Playing against Wagner is not going to do much to determine who should be running the show. Now if Drew continues to play catch with the other team well...
