It isn't mentioned but we do have a bit of a rivalry with K-State and Coach Snyder.

We have played the Wildcats three times in bowl games since 1998 - the Fiesta, the Insight and the Pinstripe.

Lets bring them to the Dome for one last game against one of the great coaches in college football history.

Good luck with that. They only play 3 OOC games a year, and only 1 against another BCS school.

They might have an opening in 2023.

Coach Snyder will probably be dead by the next time they have an OOC opening on their schedule.

Ha, I was gonna say that he'll be 104...but still coaching

2023 & 2024 are open, or 2026 and beyond.

Yes they sure are. I was just looking at dates when Snyder would realistically still be coach when I first glanced, unless he does either a Paterno and stays forever or some Weekend at Bernie's sorta thing.

Rivalry?

Not sure it's a rivalry at all. Three times in 18 years is barely above a regular home-and-home.

As mentioned, Snyder is 138 years old, and I'm not sure how much people will care when he's no longer there (as no one else has succeeded there, I think ever).

Put me in a camp that wants the Tennessee Vols back on the schedule. Nice, easy ride down 81, if you don't count the 8 hours you'll spend behind Tractor Trailer B in the left lane going 56 mph passing Tractor Trailer A in the right land going 55 mph.

Knoxville is so much fun on gameday. And they brought so much atmosphere to the Dome.

I described it as "bit of a rivalry" considering the frequency in which we have played the Wildcats in post-season bowl games - 1998, 2001 and 2012. Three times in 14 years.

Off the top of my head, I think we have played LSU twice in bowl games.

I'm not sure we have played anybody else multiple times during the post-season.

I may be wrong about that.

I would take the Vols or Bama or the other high profile SEC teams. Always fun in the Dome.

Agree. It's not a rivalry and why on god's green earth we would schedule a team in Kansas for an OOC game is beyond me. They aren't a TV draw, we don't recruit the area, and being in the ACC it makes zero sense to have K-State on the schedule unless they are the one and only "big" OOC of the season. Which odds are they wouldn't be because nobody in CNY cares about K-State.

The mindset around scheduling must change with the fans and thankfully it already has with Coyle from things he has said publicly and with the couple times I have talked to him at events. You want one big OOC game a year, fine. But that's it, then its cupcake city. Syracuse is in no position to over-schedule. Scheduling K-State if you have a ND or someone else on the schedule in a given year is a huge mistake.

With Clemson and FSU every year. Throw in Louisvile and then throw in schools like Miami and VT occasionally you can't schedule OOC games with schools that will always have more talent than us. You have to give this program a chance to win 6 games a year, especially over the next 10 years or so as we build this program back up. Cupcakes on the schedule so you can get to bowl games is the goal in the near future. You can't schedule K-State, zero value for a program like SU. And it isn't a rivalry.

I'd like to get Texas A&M on the schedule because A) We've never played them, and B) Why the hell not.

My DREAM is Michigan in the dome. Would be incredible and a roadie to the Big House would be just as awesome. Some other opponents that would make some sense:

Marshall
ECU
UMass
Temple
These teams are competitive but not another rough P5 OOC game

UAlbany...never understood why we play Wagner, Colgate, and RI but don't work on a relationship with a Albany. It's where I live. 2 hrs away, they would actually bring fans and inject some well needed marketing for Cuse football into the Albany area.

I hear you. Still three times in 18 years (soon to be over 20 given scheduling.)

A lot in postseason, but strategic scheduling to me is picking a team or an area to point to in recruiting. Kansas State is still somewhat random, but Snyder should be respected without a doubt.

My home and aways would be with:

Army (regular)
Colgate (always at home)
Illinois (twice every 8 years)
Penn State (twice every eight years)
Vanderbilt (every 10 years...academic perception and Chancellor spent time there I think)
UCLA (twice every ten or so years...big Syracuse base in LA)

Those schools make far more sense, especially Army and Colgate. Also, if they want to play games in Florida don't schedule USF, why schedule an equal who can beat you. Go with FIU or FAU. You get your games in Florida to help with recruiting and you schedule a "most likely" win.

As someone who's praised Jake for scheduling quality teams and coach P for beating them I'm surprised you have respect for coach cupcake
