Did anybody notice that Malik Brown was the starting center for their game against Lincoln?(exhibition)

He played 19 mins, and had 7 points, 4 Rebs, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Very Brown like numbers.

Didn’t he leave Syracuse because he didn’t want to start at center?

On a side note, Cooper Flagg seems like your typical Duke douchebag.

Thanks for sharing as I did not see that. I am sure Brown doesn't want to play center. However, he went to a much better team, probably getting paid lots and has a chance for a higher level of exposure. I'll root against dook but hope that Brown is successful. This whole thing is a business now.

Nope, he left on account of brotherhood.
I think he would’ve been in a similar situation at Syracuse. Especially with Freeman coming in, and I think Autry wanted a bonafide center. I don’t think he was guaranteed anything at Cuse either.

Anyways, I noticed that the Duke starting lineup was pretty small, and I think that they were trying to just try a small lineup in that exhibition game.

Duke may ask Maliq to do what he did here. We may have asked him to do more. I’ll be curious if he has a solid but unremarkable year what he does for his Sr year. Could see him reuniting somewhere with JT.

Both their centers (Maluach and Ngongba) are freshman. Ngongba has a lingering foot injury and his timeline to return is uncertain. Maluach actually played one more minute in the exhibition than Brown. Odd that Duke doesn't have another legit PF on the roster unless you move Flagg over.

I see this as a glaring weakness. The big lamp and NM should do well w freeman and Davis

Unless he gets pushed out of the rotation which isnt happening he gets to be a glue guy with top 10 picks. I don't think he cares about what position he plays or what happens at Syracuse if he's on the court at the end of games.

Maliq and Copeland were game changers defensively and Mintz was very good at times as well. Everyone else who is back was awful defensively. We'll see if this team can and somehow become average defensively and a very good scoring and shooting. We did pick up some good rebounders.

I would just point out that for as much as fans liked Copeland, him landing at McNeese State is a gigantic red flag.

Of course it is just pointing out there was a second guy that was an absolute menace defensively whom we lost not just Brown. The two of them were extremely good at slapping the ball out of guys hands.

Judah very good at times on D but he gambled way too much.

The rest of our returners were basically turnstyles and got abused on that end.

There's a YouTube short on the Duke basketball channel of Scheyer coaching Maliq telling him, if he's open, to shoot the 3. I agree Maliq will probably stick with what he's good at for the most part, but the video certainly made it look like Scheyer was encouraging him to expand his game and how that'll really open things up.

You're right. I had a roundabout way of saying perhaps more team first guys will make for a good enough defensive team this year.

I think he is being forced to play center because, just like Syracuse the Duke Center got injured. I do not think the Duke player will be out for the year but who knows?? Anyway he went to a rival he is now a rival.

For fans who have been around a while I hope he has the same personal growth Scoop had at SU. Frankly, Jardine was a mess at the start of his career but he matured and developed at SU. I thought he was lucky JAB let him stay. Of course Scoop was willing to do the work to become a solid person. I had hoped for that progression at SU last year for Copeland and I wish him well for his future. Not just hoops, but his life in general. I loved Cope as real showman. Drove us nuts with mistakes but those highlights were spectacular.

It’s not been a stellar effort tonight. 3 fouls in 5 minutes in the first half. He’s grabbed a couple of boards, has at least 1 assist. I think he’s only taken one shot - a three that missed badly.

He’s buried behind a stacked front court.

Maliq is a quality ball player. He finds a way to stuff the non stat sheet and put up numbers on the stat sheet. He will play minutes for whatever team he is on. Especially after last years team environment, a kid from Va will choose Duke all day. Possibly even a kid from cuse. Ill cheer for Syracuse and the kids playing for the S. All others...i wish them well and dont really care. I know one thing if Maliq has a big play against us I will be booing loudly.
And he seems like a really good kid, IMO the opposite of a Duke player.

Well maybe Maliq is one of the rare ones, trying to get the best education he can.
Syracuse<Duke< ?

Good
I’m not rooting against him at all - I wish we had him as our back up PF this year, but those thinking he’s going to play 25/30 minutes on this Duke team are going to be sorely disappointed.

Baring injury, he’s looking at 10-15 minutes a game. Duke scored 103 points. Maliq scored as many as I did from my couch.
