18 snaps for Estime, of those 18 snaps, Ashton was on for 2 of them (as per Chris Carlson).

I did not get the move when they put Broyld in the slot and I still don't at all. You look at every top 25 program and they have playmakers all over the field. You cannot have only 1 playmaker on the field, that really is not setting up for success. You could say that Ishmael and some of the other guys are better than Broyld on the outside, but I won't believe you. We cannot have 1/2 playing at the same time. Is it the hurry up offense? Are we really that much in love with screens that Ashton can't play outside because he can't downfield block?

I would not join up for a team knowing I would be playing 50% of the time.

Just a head scratcher for me...

those teams with playmakers all over the field would have players killing to get 50% of the snaps. AB also got hurt during the game and that may have changed his snap count

Agree - get them both on the field at the same time. AB can play the opposite slot -He should be able to play the Y position and catch quick passes over the middle, in addition to screens. He's got size and speed. Estime has real speed - use them both.

I get that. But we aren't Alabama. We need as much skill on the field as possible all of the time.

Ishmael started the game over West, so maybe it's a case of Ishmael being better than Broyld, Broyld not taking to the outside WR spot, etc.

I don't think that was Broyld. They said it was, but that was a defensive player on the ground. Wigham?

Not sure if upper is referring to something different, but you are right that when Whigham was hurt, they listed Broyld's name on the screen.

In a related story, I hate that we have a #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10 (etc.) on offense and a #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10 (etc.) on defense.

From the shotgun...

they actually lined up under center once pulled the tackle and tried to have Ameen run thru the hole, but got stuffed for a 3 yard loss. that was the only running play to the right on the goal line series

I remember that one. That was the second goal line stand i believe.

AB got hurt twice that i saw. He didnt stay down on the field but was clearly not feeling well. he got rolled once blocking for one of the screens.

And in the first quarter Ishmael promptly dropped an easy pass for 6 yards on a first down play.

One dropped pass in your first collegiate game doesn't determine your talent or future at WR, no matter how sour your oranges are. Ashton has been known to drop a few himself.

Who is on the field the first play at WR and even RB sometimes, isn't a reflection of the depth chart and who the starters are. Teams play multiple receivers at each spot. Some players are in for a specific play or package.

They obviously like Ishmael and they moved Broyld. You have a different hypothesis?

Considering that we have a sample size of 1 game and over 90% of the schedule is ahead of us, I'd suggest we wait and see how things play out before becoming too concerned.

as the admitted #1 Estime fan on this website, i was once again et down by the small number of snaps we gave this kid. i sure hope they start using him more and correctly. he is more than a 1 trick pony (i.e. the screen pass to him where he has 1 blocker and 3 defenders on him)

I thought they passed the ball downfield to him at least twice. One was a bad throw and the other he couldn't make the catch.

I was pretty confused, and discouraged about this as well until I learned that Estime is still a little nicked up from his injury he suffered during camp. I thought it was strange he wasn't returning punts at first. That still doesn't really explain moving AB back to the slot where you now have your 2 top playmakers at the same position. Our offense looked pretty damn good at the end of last year when we had them both of them on the field together.

Regardless once Estime gets back to 100% (which should be for the CMU game) he should see a pretty big increase in his amount of snaps.
