Rahme's article

"Unlike a game earlier, when true freshman Ashton Broyld was removed from the plan, there was a package for the talented but raw tailback in the plan."

Later

"Broyld never got into the game."

The big question is why? Players don't just get into the game. Coaches choose who play and who doesn't

Not bashing Rahme, I assume Marrone didn't give him an answer

and they need to stop saying he's a wet behind the ears "true freshman". No he's a almost 20 year old man child with a year of prep school experience under his belt and, if I'm recalling correctly, a guy who showed up here early in January. Cripes. Just play the kid already. Once they lose 7 if we don't see him out there I'm going to have to be escorted from the dome like the rap gang bangers from last fridays midnight madness.

"No plan of operations extends with certainty beyond the first encounter with the enemy's main strength"

Helmuth von Moltke (1800 -- 1891)

In other words, either Doug forgot or he never encountered the situation for which the package was designed.

Actually the plan was to get him in if SU had the ball on the Rutty 43, it was 2nd and 2 and 9:02 left in the first period...it didn't happen so he sat.

Honestly maybe he had problems in practice when they went to the strip type of tackling Rutty does. It may have been a case of Marrone out thinking himself as well...who knows.

I might get on Marrone about things but almost never about who is playing. We can analyze play calling, decisions, etc but it is hard yo criticize who gets in. There are so many things that come into play including practice habits, showing skills in practice, the playbook, classwork, off the field issues, attitude etc. Impossible to get around all that.

True. We see a very small part of the equation but it's the one that matters to the sports world and it's been a bit of a struggle.

Exactly. There is something going on behind the scenes that is holding DM back from playing him. I'm going to go with his lack of practice hustle.

He's only been going to ludicrous speed, doesn't go to plaid enough in practice.
