Bryant's mother

In fairness to the P-S, it is easy to get an interview with a kid at a prep school? Maybe they didn't ask Bryant for comment (which I find hard to believe), but I don't think it's bad journalism to consider a kid's mother to be a reliable source.

Bryant seemed to be saying--"If you want to know why I picked IU, ask me, not my mother." I think maybe because she had been so easily accessible to the staff, they took the easy way out and just called her. But, maybe Bryant was unavailable to comment. In any case, they could have waited until they were able to talk to him directly.

Sure. They could have waited, but I also understand the need of getting a story out quickly after his commitment.

Big time recruiting miss... Looks like Syracuse had totally the wrong strategy and went after mom instead of TB.

Sounds like a smart guy who's got his head on straight.
Hope he lives up to the billing and has a great career
(Except, of course, any time he plays the Orange).

Who was the lead recruiter on this one? Whoever it was screwed the pooch bigtime. It sounds like mom told them she wanted him to come to SU and they basically let her do the recruiting. Not to call the kid, not to get him some time with the players? That's just lazy. Then Boeheim running his mouth that he is in the bag just compounds things. This recruitment was a complete cluster. No excuse for it really.

Hard to get too worked up when we've already got a top 5 class coming in and have seemingly gotten every top Upstate NY kid we've wanted for years. Can't get everybody.

Christmas, Melo, and Coleman all got the start and play 2 minutes and then head to the bench for the rest of the game if it's an important one freshman season treatment anyways. Hard to see Bryant being different.

I'm thinking positive. Coleman is a McDonald's AA, 22 years old, healthy, in shape, more polished, and ready to become a big time player and will make Bryant irrelevant to us.

Anybody know for sure if he was a regular guest at big games at the Dome over the years? Have heard that but I'm wondering if it's really true. Seems that he liked us enough for the comps at least.

Wonder why he says he only talked with McCullough when supposedly his high school friend Chino was on the team??
The same Chino we "had" to keep or we wouldn't get Bryant. I've got to wonder why Chino is still here. He'll get less time next year than this year.

Unless Coleman gets hurt again and/or Diagne.

The way his mother spoke about consoling him about Boeheim not being in contact with him, not to mention none of the players talking to him, suggests he was interested in coming here at some point and changed his mind. Regardless of how much any of us hypothesize about the main factors involved, this is one of many cases we'll likely never know the entire truth about. However, the combination of these last 2 articles seem to suggest there was more at play then some of us are assuming, and that Thomas is a good kid and is trying to keep things classy. It seems like Thomas may have even more respect for Boeheim and the program than his mother, and more practice at controlling his emotions and knowing the proper answers to give.

I in no way feel the desire to play Indiana the way I did when I wanted to see SU play UK and for MCW to dunk over his buddy Nerlens Noel. Maybe others do, but for me it's not even close. I wish the best for the kid.

Sounds like we know why the staff didn't communicate with him "for months". Looks quite clear he had no intention to come here.
