Buddy is a hard worker and smart basketball player. But, he doesn't have what it takes to be an NBA player. He is not the first guy to be a good or even great college player who lacks NBA ability. He is just too slow to guard anyone, his handle is average or below (I'd say below), tends to be streaky as a shooter, and can't create for himself or others. He is to be commended for maximizing his skills on the college level. I'm rooting for him and at times think up scenarios of that right team with great offensive stars who gets doubled and at times tripled teamed, where Buddy can be the spot up shooter; and that team would have great defense to make up for him lacking in that area. Buddy is not as big or skilled as Duncan Robinson who has fell out of Miami's rotation and I doubt will ever be the player he was a year or two ago. The game keeps changing and as someone noted in an earlier post, there are a lot of guys now who are athletic and defensive oriented who shoots the three very well ( 3 and D). There are so many of these types available and coming out of college each year, so why bother with a streaky 3 point specialist who brings nothing else to the table? He seems to be likeable and the kind of guy you root for (plus he's the son of a legendary coach) so I can see at most a 2 way contract that really will lead to nowhere. Hopefully, he won't waste his good years knocking about in the G or D League like Fair, Arinze and other solid college players and wisely go overseas and make some real money while he can.
