Buddy Boeheim: Thunder G League

I didn’t grab his autograph, but I’m 85% sure I saw Danny Schayes there today.

Shirt was a hit, got some high fives, a few photos and a bunch of “I grew up in Upstate NY” yells.

Heard some “let’s go buddy” yells when he was checking in, folks loved the three.

I think we’re gonna swing back Tuesday, both the lakers and pistons play the same evening.
This is my second year checking out Summer League, and I like it even more. $50 to watch basketball all day, can’t beat it

Far more especially the first two games. Lakers didn’t play the same game the 3rd one. It was all drive and try opposite handed spin and twist crazy shots.

Yeah, Swider seemed frozen out a bit in game 3 in California while the other guys tried to get their buckets. Cole had a terrific first game in Las Vegas, though. Not just another 3-7 night from three, but he had a block, a couple nice assists, had a few rebounds, tipped a few balls. His defense isn't super, but it's not awful, either.

Geez, I wish Buddy was getting more run, and getting some decent looks at the basket.

We know he can shoot the lights out.

Is the height difference between Swider and Buddy going to mean the difference about who makes the end of an NBA bench?

We know no such thing. Facts not in evidence.

Buddy Buckets "shot the lights out" for about 6 weeks at the end of his Junior year.
That's it.

Career 41% from field, 36% from 3. Meh.

FYI - Scoop Jardine had a better career 3pt % than Buddy.
So did Mike Hopkins.
As did Silent G, Devo, and J-Dub.

Meanwhile, Cole shot 40%+ from 3 for each of his last 2 full seasons.

Cole is taller but also bit more versatile and athletic

Everyone we played focused on Buddy and made him the man to stop. Comparing Scoop, or any of those guys, to Buddy as a 3 pt shooter is just silly.

There is a lot more separating Cole and Buddy as players other than height

Hope Buddy does well, but Cole is a much better fit for the NBA

Whats the difference besides cole being a few inches taller? I understand that could be a huge difference but wondering if there are other reasons.

I personally dont see either making it for long. Summer games don’t mean a ton. I think AO was MVP of the summer league (or he crushed it) and barely got any time in the nba.

Heres a good question—Are cole and buddy better nba prospects than andy rautins was because rautins i think got drafted and barely played in the nba.

Cole’s ability to do other things besides shoot the ball (more athletic, not as big of a liability on defense, rebounding the basketball, etc).

Good questions. I think he’s on the perfect team, though. He’s a cheap shooter. Does Duncan Robinson do anything besides shoot?

Maybe it’s just me, but seems like Cole has kinda added this sweep across move to create some space before he shoots threes that is freeing him up more. I didn’t see that move at Cuse. I could be wrong but man does he look the part right now

Duncan is still really effective with out the ball in his hands (dribble hand offs, coming off screens, moving with out the ball, etc). Right now Buddy just kind of stands in the corner and waits for the ball to get to him. But this also might not be the right setting to see what he can do offensively.

Defensively, Duncan has better foot speed than Buddy which makes him less of a defensive liability (than he already is).

People love to point to Duncan, but he lost a TON of playing time this year due to his lack of D. He wasn't in the regular playoff rotation until injuries occurred

I point to Duncan Robinson because I think Cole is really similar. And, whether he plays or not, he is getting paid. There are spots for guys like Cole in the league. Not many, but a few. Personally, I love Buddy, but I don’t think he’s an NBA player. I don’t think he is a great basketball player. He figured out how to score in college, but he is a terrible passer and not a good enough athlete to defend at the NBA level. He isn’t great at moving without the ball…

I think there's a spot for Cole too. I'm just suggesting that pointing to Duncan Robinson as the "all he does is shoot" example as his playing time rapidly declined this year isnt the great point some think it is

I admittedly have not seen a lot of Duncan Robinson but my memory is he is a lot quicker and has a better handle than either Cole or Buddy. I could be wrong or maybe Buddy and Cole can improve in those areas.
