Has any SU player surpassed initial expectations more than Buddy? Rautins? Warrick? Moten?

This was exactly what I expected.

I’ll throw somme other names out there….JBReafsnyder, JoshPace Elijah Hughes.

Mike Hopkins… Jim Boeheim…

Should wait until post-Duke game for this. Bad mojo.

I have had my coffee, so that's no excuse...who are we talking about here?

Other SU players came in with no expectations.

Buddy had to overcome the initial mountain of negative expectations, ie. he is only on the team and getting minutes because of his last name.

Remember, the nepotism posts started after the second game of his freshman year (and continue, unabated, to this day).

So, yeah, I would say that he is at the top of the list.

If memory serves, Rautins was encumbered by all the same negativity. And he seemed pretty underdeveloped as a freshman on top of that.

To rise to captaincy of a #1 team and wind up drafted by the Knicks was a pretty amazing rise. If he's not alone at the top of the "overshooting expectations" list, he's got limited company.

Yes, Rautins had to deal with that also but his PT came much more slowly (he did not start every game until senior year) and he was never the focal point the way Buddy is as he was surrounded by superior talent.

Andy never had to deal with the level of vitriol that has been directed Buddy's way.

What about Jonny Flynn? Didn't most people think this skinny little kid was just a throw-in?

This is Warrick, easy, imo.

Kid ended up a consensus AA his senior year, was 2nd/3rd team before that (depending on publication), 2x first team BE, BE POY, has a chip (you could argue he was the second most important player).

Those are insane accolades. His teams went:
23-13 (on that broken Deshaun/Shump team)
30-5
23-8
27-7

It's Hak.

Moten needs to be on this list, he is probably co #1 with Sherman in my mind. Hak is also right there.
