Build-a-Coach

How about a coach that knows how to develop and utilize a bench? Where the team has its starters play 28-33 minutes a game and 3-4 guys play regularly off the bench 10-15 minutes a game. Don't mean to be so precise but you get the picture. And as the season progresses a regular and predictable rotation is established.

The bench players know their roles and everyone plays all out 100% when they're in the game. The best players are on the floor at the end and they're not falling short on jumpers or unable to corral loose ball rebounds cuz they're gassed. Nor do they conserve energy on the defensive end of the court during the course of the game. That would be nice.

Those items would fall into in-game (subbing decisions in real-time), strategy (building your identity around this type of game plan), and player development.

This is probably closer to what I would do. Basically, I feel like recruiting has become the dominant factor. Player development is almost a thing of the Iron Age at this point. You have to recruit a new team every single year basically and you won’t have the players long enough to development into much. A coach like JB (these days anyway) is probably:

In game coaching - 2
Strategy - 5
Recruiting - 1
Development - 2
Image - 0

Calipari is probably

In game coaching - 1
Strategy - 0
Recruiting - 5
Development - 0
Image - 4

JB right now only has about 6 or 7 points total to disperse on your scale.

JB the HOFer in his heyday was about a 12 or 13 pointer on the 10 point scale.
