BJ Johnson will be one of the best players to have played for the cuse since the turn of the century, and possibly one of the best all time.

I have a great feeling about this kids attitude, work ethic, athletic ability, brains, basketball skills and upside.

I just want to make an official thread so everyone knows it was trueblue who called it.

That's quite the prophecy! I sure hope your right. Seems like a good kid.

Hence my "future 1st team all-Americans don't redshirt" post

I also love this kid and I'm trying to figure out why. I want to make sure it's not because of his dad's posts. I don't think it is. This kids reminds me of CJ Fair, not in position or playing style but in the fact he is a hard worker and is sliding in under the radar. CJ is mostly due to the fact he had an injury in High School, for BJ it's because he needs to put on some weight I think. Either way he seems like that kind of kid that works hard and will come back every year improved. By the end I wouldn't be suprised if he was a 1st team All-American type player that is up for ACC player of the year.

He hasn't even played a game yet.

That's awfully high expectations.

I don't expect him to come out and be a main contributor for years. He has weight to put on, and it's a big adjustment going from high school to the greatest basketball team in man kind (syracuse :) ). However, by his junior and senior year I believe this kid will reap the benefits of his hard work and surprise us all.

It's very, very rare to see a naturally basketball talented, athletically gifted, motivated, and intelligent kid come out of high school like him. If Syracuse fan's give him there support, as they always do, I see big things.

The stars are aligning Cuse fans.

The ACC must know

Key for him is going to be patience, there isnt going to be much PT available for him this year. I know he (and probalby his dad) aren't high on taking a redshirt year but I think it would really benefit him and also help him from getting frustrating when he goes weeks without getting PT as JB shrink his bench once conference play starts or SU gets in a close game.

I agree.

He should know that JB rewards optimistic, patient and spark plug like players.

Nichols, Fair, Warrick all skinny minis of the 2000s

He may find more time than most expect this year. Either way if grant leaves he will play a big roll next season.

BJ has all the potential to be a great player. I think we are all very excited for what he could turn into at Syracuse. My thought, for what its worth, is that he probably wont see any significant playing time time until his junior year. If Roberson and McCullough are gone by then he could very well start at the 3. If we want to predict the future I would imagine his main competition would be Mike G in his senior year (kid can't split time with Cooney forever right?) And of course, I am discounting any freshman from starting at the 3 that year, but not the 4 ;).

BJ has a Big advantage on Mccullough, Roberson and Grant this year and next with his ability to hit the three ball. And it seems he can do it off the bounce, as well as from the corners.

CJ and Ennis will be our two best one on one players on this team, and putting Bj in the corner will open things up for them. That will help CJ play out of the left corner, give Ennis someone to find in the corners making it easier on him, and help against zones. Bj's extra 2-4 inches at SG could be a nightmare for teams with shorter SG's.

He'll have Roberson and McCullough to compete with

I know but he an shoot better than either and we would need a 3rd forward so he'd have a roll and once he started knocking down shots you know it will be hard for JB to sit him.

Guarding players like Silent G, Cooney, Roberson, Fair, Patterson, Joseph and ennis (He'll never guard Grant or McCullough in practice it's too big of a mismatch) will only make him stronger.

Edit:

When you think about it, is there a team in the nation who could have more competitive practices and inner squad scrimmages than Syracuse?

Outside of Kentucky, no there is not.

Kansas has a talented group, but we got final four experience and better coaches.

I see BJ as a guard only and I also think the new hand checking rules will help him more than anyone on the team. He can go right he can go left and he can rise and shoot it. He is still only 17 so I think he will put on weight in the next year or two. He will be hard to guard as a third or fourth option.

No. There isn't one person on this team this year or next year that will have any sort of advantage over McCullough when it comes to playing time, he is going to start and he will be getting a ton of minutes. If Roberson is anything like the guys around here are saying, it's going to be tough for BJ to get minutes over him.

I'm very excited about our freshman and our players coming in next year but the things I've been hearing about Roberson being better than Billy Owens coming in as a Freshman and now BJ the best player this storied program has ever seen. Give me a break guys, the orange colored sunglasses are on a little too tight. I love the optimism, but it's just too much. Do you guys believe the things you're saying?

Not saying BJ will be a better player then mccullough or roberson. Just saying he will be a better outside shooter. He could be the type of SG/SF that is good enough to take 3-5 three pointers a game next year, while until proven mccullough and roberson get a shaky 0.5-3 a game combined.

When CJ leaves and cooney returns we could use a second shooter. Not saying we will need one, but we will be a noticably better team with one.
