“Byron Washington entered DeSoto High School with rods in his legs to stop his growth plates from breaking open. He stood at 6-foot-8, 450+ pounds and struggled to move”

Interesting article here. Mods if this was already posted feel free to delete or merge with a different thread.

I think this kids going to be a stud for us. Once he drops more weight and gains even more muscle I bet he absolutely starts at guard. The confidence Fran instills in his players and notably, Byron, is nothing short of excellent coaching. We are very lucky to have both men representing Syracuse university

I would also like to point out that the rapid growth Byron was facing probably limited his mobility not just his weight, hence rods being placed in his legs (ouch). Nothing wrong with being a dominant guard in college & NFL though.

He has already dropped weight Fran talked about this earlier this week.

370-380 for him and we are in great shape. He was significantly larger when he showed up on campus. He’s done an amazing job. So has strength and conditioning team.
Shows the level of care our coaches have for players willing to work... not just as players but to want them to succeed in life in general. Byron's quality of life at 350 will be exponentially better than his trajectory would be at 400+

Washington’s snaps, and it stood out that he played a full series against Clemson. He looked really solid in the run game—physical at the point of attack and willing to finish blocks. Yes, he did pick up a penalty, but that’s part of being a young lineman getting reps in tough spots, and it didn’t take away from how much he impressed.
What really caught my eye was his work in pass protection. Byron doesn’t get driven back easily, and once he gets his hands on a defender, he anchors well and holds his ground. That’s huge for a quarterback’s confidence, knowing there’s a guy up front who isn’t going to get bullied or give up inside pressure. He’s showing the kind of strength and balance that you want in a developing offensive lineman, and he’s only going to improve as he gets more comfortable with speed and technique at this level.
I’d like to see him get more minutes moving forward because he looks like a piece the line can build on. Having a young lineman who can step in, battle against elite defensive fronts, and still show flashes of dominance is something you don’t take for granted. Byron has the tools to be a big-time contributor, and with more experience, he’s going to become an even greater asset to this Syracuse offensive line.

He and Mack give you two cornerstones on the line.

I really want to see more of Kam Pringle on the field. From what I’ve seen, he has a high ceiling as an offensive lineman. He shows the strength, technique, and awareness that could make him a key part of the line if he gets more consistent reps. With more experience and time in the system, he has the potential to be a reliable, physical presence up front, and it’ll be exciting to watch him develop and make an impact for the offense.

What are your thoughts on Zach Rice? He’s a former 5-star, and I’m honestly surprised he lost the battle to Cruz. I would have loved to see him start this year and be one of our bookend guards, but he obviously lost the position battle. Do you think he’s still going to make a big impact on the OL down the line?

I think UNC was kind of shocked he never developed. He only saw the field on specials. Don't think of him as a five star anymore. He's a big athletic guy with some potential but clearly not going to be the second coming of Jonathon Ogden. Hopefully the staff can work with him to turn him into at least a decent college starter. Luckily the talent level has been raised and we have a servicable starting OL and guys like Washington and Pringle keeping pressure on the starters to raise their game. Pre-Fran we've been lucky to have six functional line pieces and now our second team is getting quite competitive. Gonna be awesome to start pushing other teams around.

It's great that Pringle is only a redshirt freshman. Lots of time. Pringle on the other hand is a redshirt jr.

Having quality line depth is a new concept for us.

Yea it sucks that rice probably won’t work out but that’s the name of the game in the portal and I agree I think Pringle starts next year he has so much talent . But this team is DEEP and has talent all over the roster can’t say that about past teams.

yep to all that, and I was absolutely blown away how light on his feet he is aka you comment about strength AND balance. Its amazing and portends everything you mention and then I'll add beyond, if he can stay healthy and avoid injuries related to his size and PMH. So far so good.

At this point, he’s just valuable depth, but Byron and Pringle have incredibly high ceilings. I’m really excited about the future with them leading the offensive line.

Even as a true freshman, Byron Washington is dominating in the run game. Guys move back when he comes at them, and in the pass game, no one can budge him—he’s like a statue. His presence on the line is already impressive, and it’s clear he has the talent to be a cornerstone for the offense.
The main thing I want him to focus on is conditioning so he can stay on the field as long as possible. I believe he only played a series or two against Clemson, but with improved endurance, he could handle entire games and truly become a game-changing force for the team.

He's what I hoped Kalan Ellis was going to be a couple of years ago. ENORMOUS guy with some mobility, who is bigger / stronger than everybody else.

Didn't pan out with Ellis. He had that superhuman Pacific Islander physique, but wasn't as dominating physically as you'd expect. In fact, he didn't really push anyone around, like you'd expect.

Washington seems to be another story entirely. Once he gets in slightly better condition [and at 6-8, he is going to carry more weight than most OL; I think 370 seems about right, as ridiculous as that sounds to say] he'll be a monster.

Happy he was here for spring practice. Accelerated his readiness.

One of my favorite plays of his this weekend, was when he went to the second level and blocked a linebacker. The linebacker had no chance,
do we have that on YouTube?
