Texas, and maybe Oklahoma, are opposed to a conference championship game, because the game makes it more difficult to get to the BCS championship game.

I can see their problem with it, since I'm sure that they feel the winner of their game against each other deserves the BCS bid for the conference. And they're usually right. The problem was that they would then have to play another game against a northern division team that could be a late stumbling block.Texas, and maybe Oklahoma, are opposed to a conference championship game, because the game makes it more difficult to get to the BCS championship game.
Think back just a couple of years, when UT needed a questionable referee's decision to avoid getting knocked out of the championship by Nebraska. There have been a number of upsets in conference championship games (more in the Big 12 than the SEC, I think). Both have made the NCG with a B12 CG before. Plus all the other BCS confs have CGs now.
