If there were 8 teams in the CFP this year, think it would have been a TCU/Oregon final and what a great one to watch.

It would be awesome if the NCAA was just honest about things and said "Everyone wants to go to 8, we all want to go to 8, everyone knows we're going to 8... *** it, we're doing an 8 team playoff next season."

Would anyone actually stop it?

Presidents would be upset for a half a minute until they saw the paychecks rolling in...

Current playoff contract goes till 2025-2026. Would have to be some major negotiations and changes for it to change before then. Not saying its impossible but I don't see it anytime in the near future.

Ugh. Don't like it. Then about 2 months before playoffs start everyone will be saying we need to go to 16.

Honestly, those ratings are based on novelty as well. These were the first playoffs in college football history and ESPN will not get the same ratings next year. Phenomenal numbers though

TV money talks. Very loudly obviously.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is an early restructuring of the playoff system.

you have to think there was some stuff in the contract to allow for a restructure less than 10 years out? you go to 16 and you can start doing the stuff that makes the super bowl so huge with pools that bring the avg fan into the game as well.

I am guessing no based off of the secondary bowls will now get really hurt and will balk at expanding the playoff

I honestly think it should be 16. That would truly be sweet. ;)

why would it effect the bowls? it really depends on whether they make the first round a home game or not.. if they really wanted too they could make the first round be at home the 2nd week of dec. that would leave 4 teams just like now to play in the same slots as now and nothing else would really change other than do you let the 4 losers play in a bowl game..

if you make them neutral you could play week one xmas week in some lower tier bowl sites that dont draw at all now. round 2/3 could stay where they are.. that would actually make some bowls mean much more.. if you do that the losers wouldnt have to play in a bowl.

Writings on the wall: NIT = Belk Bowl

I would think many more bowls would just be incorporated into the play off system, everbody happy.

How do you incorporate them? You now want fans to pay $$$ to visit 3 different sites? Not happening. Plus every bowl can't be incorporated so now the ones that aren't will be upset and go away. Which might not be a big deal for many fans, but for the sponsors, conferences, and people involved with them is a big deal. That's the road block

Same way the bowls were incorporated into the four team playoff.

It would make it too big to expand it the same way

One additional week makes it too big? I do not think so.
Kirk suggested first game at home of higher seed, but that creates an advantage to the arbitrarily higher seed, until/unless it got larger than eight I would prefer neutral bowl sites.
Either way it could be made to work.

Yep it actually does make it too big. The current contract goes through 2026 so no change is happening soon anyway

half the bowl games are empty and should be axed anyways. 6-6 teams should NOT be in bowl games.
