If they got to 8 play the quarterfinals at the home stadium of the higher seed. Then play the final four like they do now.

Absolutely. The college presidents will be unable to refuse the potential monetary windfall from an extra home game with National Championship stakes. This would also ensure that the regular season doesn't lose it's importance because you would be playing for that home field advantage and frankly you would likely be knocked out of the 8 if you lost 2 games. Losers in round 1 go to the Bigger conference bowl games against other top 25 teams.

The final 4 and NC is exactly how it is now.

It is patently ridiculous to have a 5 League 4 team playoff.
